    We are seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer specializing in Substations to join our Lansdale, PA office. The role involves serving as the civil engineer for electric substation design projects related to high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. The ideal candidate will utilize NESC, ASCE, and other relevant codes and standards in their engineering design work. Responsibilities include independently creating steel structure designs, concrete foundation designs, foundation layouts, oil containment designs, metal grate platform designs, and firewall designs for rigid and strain bus configurations. Collaborating with the lead substation engineer, the role also entails developing general arrangement plans, conduit, and grounding plans, and reviewing site plans for accuracy before submission to local/federal authorities for permit approval. Familiarity with erosion and sediment control practices and stormwater management is essential. Additionally, the position involves collaborating with internal and external project stakeholders to ensure project milestones are achieved and contracted services meet expectations.

    JOB FUNCTION:

    • Performs all aspects of civil design for high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substation projects to include:

    • Associated Bill of Materials
    • Assistance with
    • General Arrangement Development
    • Cable Trough and Conduit Plans and Details
    • Grounding Plans and Details
    • Site Plan Development
    • Erosion and Sediment Control Review
    • Stormwater Management Review
    • Construction Documentation (Sequence and RFP)
    • Technical Support
    • Bus Fault Stress Analysis
    • Procurement

    • Active Coordination
    • Ability to work seamlessly with the Physical Designer to develop the drawings associated with the above-listed designs.
    • Ability to coordinate efforts with other various external and internal project team members, with familiarity in identifying when coordination is needed with certain design disciplines such as substation engineers, transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, geotechnical engineers, and surveyors.
    • Keenly focuses on the production of high-quality work and supports continuous improvement efforts.
    • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects.
    • Responsible for assisting with the identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances.
    • Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work.
    • Serves as a technical specialist for system protection and communication and has knowledge and skillset to provide consultation and guidance to project teams.
    • Remove any impediments that are obstructing the engineering team from achieving its goals.
    • Works to advise Management about how to maximize ROI for the team.
    • Attending all client technical review meetings.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

    • Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from a recognized accredited program.
    • Minimum of 4 years related work experience in the field of high voltage civil substation design.
    • PE License in at least 1 US state
    • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation.
    • Proficient in 3D Modeling (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation V8i)
    • Proficient in the use of PLSCAD, LPILE, STAAD, or similar programs
    • Good knowledge of the industry and technology trends specific to substations.
    • Strong familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Meet all minimum qualifications.
    • Knowledge of construction practices and constructability
    • Experience with proposal writing and project estimating.
    • Working knowledge of scheduling and project controls processes.
