Substation Design Engineer
Location:
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Role Overview: As a technical lead substation design engineer, you will:
- Design substations for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission voltage classes.
- Develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design and physical design.
- Participate in project management, scheduling, and resource planning meetings.
- Interface with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Perform QA/QC on projects and mentor junior engineers.
- Hybrid role in-office three days/week
Key Responsibilities:
- Stay current with design guides, standards, systems, and engineering codes.
- Ensure compliance with quality programs and support continuous improvement.
- Prepare complex engineering deliverables and conduct equipment/materials research.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and quality requirements for projects.
- Coordinate with internal and external team members on projects.
- Assist with identifying client interests and communicate them to project teams.
- Support business development activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 5 years of high voltage (34.5 kV+) experience.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in substation design – Physical and/or Protection & Controls.
- Experience in QA/QC of substation design projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License or EIT in pursuit of obtaining a PE License.
