Our new Substation Engineering Section Lead will manage the engineering process from project award through completion. You will be accountable for the success of your team as you lead them on unique and challenging substation projects. A key responsibility of this position is to work on complex designs for substation projects with our utility clients. You will be challenged to develop a team that performs protective system designs, physical layout designs, and calculations, as well as oversee and coordinate with other departments on substation projects.
Responsibilities as a Substation Engineering Section Lead include the ability to: • Prepare construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects • Produce calculations, studies, and reports for substation and power systems projects meeting internal and client standards and requirements • Apply engineering design principles, client standards, guidelines, specifications, and practices in preparing design drawings • Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with all specifications, codes and client requirements • Build relationships with clients to ensure optimal communication on project status with client representatives and other key stakeholders • Provide weekly updates to Senior Team Leaders and/or Project Managers on milestone progress, estimated completion dates including percent completion of activities and supporting information to monitor project progress • Develop your Team by supporting hiring and training initiatives • Ensure quality at each stage of ongoing projects and communicate if deficiencies are identified • Report health and safety issues to management • Strive to complete work ahead of or by schedule deadlines • Adhere to budget • Lead a Team of up to six Engineers
Qualifications for this position must consist of: • 7+ years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field. • Experience with high voltage substation design (15kV through 500kV) activities such as preparing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (equipment, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including selection of non-standard equipment. • Ability to interpret and apply standards including IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards. • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. • PE license (or currently pursuing a PE license) is required
It would be great if you possess: • Experience with power system calculations (AC station service, DC battery sizing, and Voltage Drop/Cable Selection) • Familiarity with substation physical equipment • Prior work with protection and controls design
