    Position Summary:

    Under the direction of the Program Director and Program Department Managers, our Seasonal Program Staff play a vital role in the success of Morgan's Camp ("MC"). This position will focus on the implementation of high-quality programming operations that help create meaningful and lasting experiences for our campers, guests, staff, and volunteers. As a member of the program team, this role is responsible for ensuring our camp program reflects and furthers the mission and values of Morgan's Camp. As a Ranch and Nature Specialist you will be expected to work in all activity areas but will receive more specific training in facilitation of the Spur Ranch and Stockyard and will have preference when it comes to daily activity assignments.

    Spur Ranch at Morgan's Camp offers individuals of all ages and abilities the opportunity to take part in equine and nature experiences. These experiences include arena riding, trail riding, horse grooming, and classroom style learning. The ranch staff provide campers with a greater set of skills and assistance to make their ride more successful. This includes, but is not limited to, horse leading, rider side walking, tack adaptations, assisted mounting and dismounting, etc.

    The Stockyards is where campers go for interactive educational experiences. Nature staff will help create safe environments for both guests and animals to interact and for campers to learn about many of the native, and a few non-native, species we see in Texas. Staff will be expected to teach about, handle, and care for the various non-equine animals we who call Morgan's Wonderland Camp home. This includes snakes, spiders, lizards, bugs, birds, ferrets, rabbits, goats, sheep, and other barnyard animals.

    Day-to-day operational oversight of Spur Ranch and the Stockyards will be conducted by the MC Ranch Manager.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide a phenomenal camp experience for all campers, guests, staff, and volunteers.
    • Lead programming activities for campers, counselors, and volunteers.
    • Maintain programming areas.
    • Maintain ranch and nature center areas.
    • Assist in caring for MC animals.
    • Ensure a safe camp environment is maintained at all times.
    • Assist in the daily operations of all camp areas including, but not limited to, food service, housekeeping, luggage handling, and camp store.
    • Assist in daily operations of all ranch and nature areas including, but not limited to, leading horses, animal care and handling, cleaning stalls, cages, and enclosures, and maintaining facilities.
    • Obtain necessary certifications (provided by MC).
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • Highschool Diploma or GED preferred.
    • Must possess high levels of self-motivation.
    • Ability to work effectively across departments, with members of the management team, volunteers, and partner camps with confidence and professionalism.
    • Willingness and enthusiasm to work as part of a team; maintain a positive attitude even under stress.
    • Desire to work with and learn about the communities and populations we serve.
    • Possess excellent communication skills.
    • Living on-site required

    Working Conditions:

    • Physical Requirements
      • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and twisting upper body for long periods of time.
      • Much physical effort is required on a routine basis: the ability to lift up to 40 pounds is required. Will be occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
      • A high volume and level of walking is required.
    • Environmental Demands
      • The work environment is an outdoor camp environment with continuous outdoor activity and exposure to weather.
      • The ability to move quickly across campus on uneven terrain.
    • Additional Information
      • The continuous requirement for professional demeanor and appropriate camp staff attire at all times.
      • Onsite housing provided.
      • No personal animals are allowed on site.
