    Independence Community College Position Announcement Summer Activities Assistant for Upward Bound Program

    Independence Community College (ICC) seeks applications for the position of Summer Activities Assistant for the Upward Bound Program. Upward Bound is funded 100% by the U.S. Department of Education.

    Position Summary

    The Activities Assistant (AA) will plan, coordinate, and execute all non-academic activities for the Upward Bound participants (local high school students) during the 5-week summer program and help plan and chaperone the end-of-program overnight trip. This is a seasonal position beginning Tuesday May 20th and ending Tuesday July 1st, with typical hours being 1:30PM-9:30PM Monday-Wednesday except for 3, 8AM-5PM training/preparation days (May 20th-22nd) and the 36-hr end-of-program overnight trip (June 30th-July 1st). The Activities Assistant is not required to reside in the residence hall.

    Compensation

    $2,200 less taxes

    Qualifications

    · Associate degree preferred, but will consider current degree-seeking students with at least one year relevant experience

    · Must have a valid driver’s license

    · Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

    · Must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and strong interest working with, educationally and economically disadvantaged students

    · Prefer a grade point average of 3.0 or above

    · Prefer a person with background similar to that of target population

    · Prefer a person with experience planning and coordinating recreational, educational, and cultural activities

    Primary Responsibilities

    · Set up, supervise, and clean up after all evening activities, Mondays-Wednesdays, for Summerfest Participants

    · Attend resident assistant training in person on 05/20-05/22 and regular staff meeting during the summer program as scheduled

    · Help plan and chaperone the end-of-program overnight trip on 06/30-07/01

    · Follow and enforce ICC and Upward Bound policies and procedures

    · Supervise and engage with participants

    · Work closely with the Head RA, RAs, Upward Bound staff, and other ICC staff to execute and supervise all recreational, educational, and cultural activities

    · Maintain accurate documentation

    · Serve as a positive role model for all Upward Bound participants

    · Perform other duties as assigned

    · The ability to effectively learn new computer programs and applications as necessary; the ability to effectively troubleshoot changing computer software issues

    · Provide own transportation to and from campus, and appropriate licensing to operate college vehicles
