  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL PURPOSE

    Camp instructors will perform a variety of duties associated with giving directions to campers aged 5-10 in accordance with Moab Arts & Recreation Center's mission, policies, and goals. The camp runs during the month of June, Monday-Thursday 9 AM-4 PM and Friday 9 AM-1 PM. Counselors are expected to arrive early to set up and stay to help clean up after the campers leave. Full or half-day shifts are available.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    Supervision Received: Instructors work under the general supervision of the Moab Arts and Recreation staff members and the Lead Camp Counselor.

    Supervision Exercised: All students attending summer camp, children ages 5-10.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    ● Works with Lead Counselor and other Instructors as a team to plan and coordinate activities, students, and equipment associated with the instruction given during a class. Instructs participants on the rules, regulations, and policies of the Camp.

    ● Is responsible for the set-up and cleaning up for each class/event session.

    ● Is responsible for the safety and security of participants.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • Experience and/or education in various mediums of art

    • Experience and/or education in various games and athletic activities

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to exercise sound judgment; ability to communicate effectively orally; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students/participants, the public and Center volunteers.

    • Ability to adhere to schedule for class/events.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    The Camp Counselor not only works in a safe, climate-controlled environment, but also outside during the summer at various locations. Tasks may entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to performing job requirements. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity are required for most essential functions.

    SELECTION GUIDELINES

    Formal application, current resume, and interview with the Arts & Special Events Manager and the Sports & Recreation Director. A sample of past work or syllabus may be requested, if applicable. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen test. Subject to background and criminal investigation.
