The Assistant Director of Financial Aid serves as a primary student service specialist within Financial Aid, responsible for counseling students and parents on the phone, via email, and in person. Additional responsibilities include management of financial aid programs; estimated packaging; packaging, awarding, and reviewing institutional, state and federal aid for undergraduate and graduate students; high school financial aid night visitations and oral presentations to individuals and large groups; special projects and/or other duties may also be assigned as deemed appropriate. The counselor will: contribute to the planning and execution of the Enrollment Management recruitment and retention effort; support the goals of Stetson One Stop by leading efforts directed towards the integration of financial aid programs with the Offices of the Registrar and Bursar; and provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counsel students and parents in various aspects of the admissions and financial aid processes providing viable financial aid options in an ethical and customer service-oriented manner
- Process student files from application through award using Banner
- Primary responsibility for managing and reconciliating the Florida State Grant and Bright Future program
- Responsible for managing the awarding of graduate financial aid, which includes scholarships and in-service discounts
- Serve as the counselor for graduate students and manage and award graduate financial aid and and loans
- Assist other staff members as needed in a cross-trained, one-stop environment
- Performs other site and position specific responsibilities as assigned
ROUTINE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interact with students and their families regarding financial aid via phone, email, or in person
- Counselor for undergraduate and graduate students
- Review discrepancy reports and make necessary adjustments to students’ aid
- Verification, professional judgement, and appeals processing
- Resolve C-flags and conflicting information
- Awarding and Packaging of all types and sources of aid
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or 4-6 years of progressive financial aid experience
Required Skills
- Strong technical and interpersonal skills required
- Ability to function and appropriately prioritize in a fast paced, high volume environment required
- Must be a cooperative team player with an overall goal to perform for the good of the office
- Some weekend and evening hours may be required
Required Experience
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred or 4-6 years of progressive financial aid experience
- Prior experience in higher education finance, accounting, financial aid, or admissions is desirable
- Experience with Banner Financial Aid system a plus
