Job Description

UTILITY RESEARCH

Research and interpret utility, net metering, and interconnection policies regarding all aspects of solar utility process in Expansion Territories

Contact the utility directly to verify findings 

Follow standard research procedures and verify with utility solar department via phone call, email, and research questionnaires 

Read and interpret Distribution Generation riders to determine net metering, retail rates, excess generation buyback rates, true-up periods, interconnection policy types, e.g., net metering, avoided cost, buy-all/sell-all, daily use no buyback, etc.  

Determine interconnection procedures, e.g., application processes, fee payment details, HOI requirements, timelines, PTO confirmation, etc.

Determine utility Engineering details for installation practices 

Reference and extract relevant data from state statues and other legislative/state government documents 

Verify, Input, and update data in internal Salesforce database 

EVALUATION AND REPORTING

Using Salesforce reports, excel files, etc., produce data-driven metrics 

Contribute to expansion policy decisions based on research findings and results 

Special Projects

• Contribute to Compliance Training and SOP development
• Participate in department-wide training related to research results and Compliance procedures
• Communicate research results, Compliance procedures, and company policies based on research verification
• Evaluate Compliance SOP/policy adoption to prevent/address compliance violations
• Complete unique data-driven projects as assigned

POST-MARKET ENTRY REVIEW

Evaluate sales proposals, utility bills, system lifetime savings and ROI calculations 

Audit sold projects for compliance review 

Reference Salesforce data and project details to adhere to compliant policies 

Evaluate adoption of Compliance procedures for all operational departments, including: Call Center, Sales, Utility, Permit, Contract Verification, Field Teams, and Lead Source teams.  

Correspond via email with Directors, Managers, Leads, and Coordinators to verify project details and audit data for Compliance verification 

Propose cancellation of projects based on Compliance violations 

Evaluate adoption of legal and compliance protections for individual projects based on research results and policy interpretation 

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: 

2+ Years previous solar experience in operations, engineering, policy, or (in some circumstances) sales

Ability to read and interpret state and local legislative documents at an intermediate level 

Communicate complex policies clearly and concisely 

Communicate in a professional manner with all levels of management 

Navigate complex topics with coworkers and leaders from all departments 

Self-motivated and highly organized and accountable for personal productivity 

Critical thinking and evaluation skills with multiple variables 

Pursue additional skills and training with software programs as needed 

Must be fully competent with current computation basics
