Brief Duties and Responsibilities: The Superior Courtroom Clerk Lead is responsible for understanding and involvement in Clerk’s office subject matter and exercises considerable independent discretion and judgment in applying guidelines to work situations. Work in this class is distinguished by knowledge of department procedures and/or specialized knowledge of major department functions and precedence and application of this knowledge. Work involves contact with the general public, public and private officials who depend on the accuracy and quality of service provided. Work requires operation of office equipment where both speed and accuracy are necessary to contribute for proper office operations and efficient service to the public. Work is normally performed in an office or courtroom setting.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directs, reviews, and schedules the work tasks of the Senior Courtroom Clerk and Courtroom Clerk positions.
Working Environment/Physical Abilities: Work is performed in the usual office environment and in the courtroom. Must possess the physical ability to sit for long periods of time while performing duties. Physical abilities required for this position are those typically related to office operations including manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate personal computers and other office equipment; ability to lift (20) pounds; access file system and sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate verbally. May deal with individuals who often have a low level of education, substance abuse issues, and mental health issues. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and illness from defendants and others in the courtroom, and court office.
Minimum Qualifications: Education And Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. At least five (5) years’ experience working in the court system, (2) years of which are court clerk/civil clerk; OR a combination of education, training, and experience in a closely related field is required.
Licenses And Other Requirements: File an Oath of Confidentiality with the State of Washington Administrative Office of the courts. Must submit and pass a driving record and a criminal background check that will allow access for all appropriate court and state information systems. Valid driver’s license. Must maintain continued education requirements in accordance with RCW’s. Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required. Must be able to supervise staff in the absence of County Clerk.
