    Position Overview:
    The City of Salem seeks a qualified medical or osteopathic physician to supervise emergency and non-emergency care provided by Fire Department Paramedics and EMTs. This role ensures compliance with state regulations, oversees clinical protocols, and enhances pre-hospital care quality.

      Qualifications:

      • Education: MD or DO degree.
      • Licensure: Active Oregon medical license; board certification in emergency medicine, EMS, or related field preferred.
      • Experience: Prior EMS medical direction or supervisory experience; familiarity with Oregon EMS regulations.
      • Technical Skills: Proficiency in protocol development, QI programs, and EMS credentialing.
      • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Issue, review, and maintain standing orders for EMS providers.
      • Ensure compliance with state certifications and regulations.
      • Conduct direct/indirect observation of EMS care (including ride-alongs).
      • Oversee the Department’s Quality Improvement Program and case reviews.
      • Provide ongoing EMS staff education and training.
      • Authorize controlled substance administration and medical equipment.
      • Report disciplinary issues to the Oregon Health Authority.
      • Approve EMT/Paramedic accreditations and certifications.
