Position Overview:
The City of Salem seeks a qualified medical or osteopathic physician to supervise emergency and non-emergency care provided by Fire Department Paramedics and EMTs. This role ensures compliance with state regulations, oversees clinical protocols, and enhances pre-hospital care quality.

Qualifications:
- Education: MD or DO degree.
- Licensure: Active Oregon medical license; board certification in emergency medicine, EMS, or related field preferred.
- Experience: Prior EMS medical direction or supervisory experience; familiarity with Oregon EMS regulations.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in protocol development, QI programs, and EMS credentialing.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Issue, review, and maintain standing orders for EMS providers.
- Ensure compliance with state certifications and regulations.
- Conduct direct/indirect observation of EMS care (including ride-alongs).
- Oversee the Department’s Quality Improvement Program and case reviews.
- Provide ongoing EMS staff education and training.
- Authorize controlled substance administration and medical equipment.
- Report disciplinary issues to the Oregon Health Authority.
- Approve EMT/Paramedic accreditations and certifications.
