Job Overview:
The Supply Chain Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the manufacturing supply chain. This position is responsible for managing the raw material planning process, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and ensuring the timely delivery of materials to meet production demands. The Specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, logistics, and warehousing, to align material availability with production schedules and minimize stockouts or excess inventory. Additionally, the role will focus on vendor management, including identifying and vetting suppliers, negotiating terms, and conducting performance assessments to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and on-time delivery.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Develop and manage raw material forecasts to meet production schedules and minimize stockouts or excess inventory.
Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production teams to adjust material orders based on changes in production demand.
Identify and vet suppliers to ensure they meet quality, cost, and sustainability standards.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials.
Evaluate vendor performance through regular assessments, ensuring quality standards and on-time deliveries are met.
Resolve any supplier-related issues, such as delays, quality problems, or discrepancies in orders.
Analyze and improve supply chain processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve lead times.
Collaborate with logistics and warehousing teams to streamline material handling and reduce operational delays Assist with the creation and submission of purchase orders (POs) to vendors based on material requirements and production schedules.
Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely order fulfillment, track order statuses, and resolve any delays or discrepancies in a timely manner.
Ensure POs are processed accurately and align with production timelines to avoid disruptions in manufacturing.
Track and report on key supply chain metrics (e.g., on-time delivery, vendor performance, inventory turnover).
Maintain accurate records of orders, receipts, and supply chain activities.
Prepare reports and presentations for management regarding material availability, supply chain performance, and improvement efforts.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
Proficiency in analyzing and managing lead times, order quantities, and safety stock levels.
Solid understanding of inventory control principles and techniques, including cycle counting, stock rotation, and managing excess or obsolete inventory.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (production, logistics, quality control, sales and engineering) and manage relationships with suppliers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in supply chain, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of raw material planning, inventory control, and vendor management.
Proficiency with ERP systems, supply chain software and Excel.
Work Authorization:
Work Authorization required, unless the candidate is a US citizen or permanent resident.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
Occasional standing for meetings or walking through warehouse or production areas.
Some light lifting or moving of supplies may be required, especially when inspecting raw materials or coordinating shipments.
