Position Summary: Under the direction of the Nursing Manager, performs assigned surgical technician duties and maintains sterile technique for all surgical procedures. Prepares the operating room, equipment, and instruments for surgery while maintaining aseptic technique.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Essential Functions
Prepares the operating suite for surgical procedures by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to the type of cases. Assists in preparing suite for subsequent cases.
Maintains aseptic techniques. Actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
Assists with transferring the patient to and/or from the operating room.
Assists members of the surgical team with gowning and gloving.
Performs instrument, needle, and sponge counts.
Assists in the maintenance and care of the specimens as directed and in accordance with standard procedure.
Applies surgical dressings.
Washes and prepares patient for transport at the end of surgery.
Removes instruments and supplies from the operating room at the conclusion of the procedure. Returns all equipment and supplies to designated locations. Reports broken or malfunctioning equipment.
Decontaminates instruments, supplies, and equipment according to established policies and procedures.
Orders and stocks unit supplies on an ongoing basis.
Updates and maintains physician preference information cards.
Performs clinical duties to include answering phones, taking messages, running errands, and pulling the following day’s cases. Assists with the training and orientation of new employees, as requested.
