    The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center is the oldest institute of its kind in the country. Our mission is to collect, preserve and display artifacts and objects that promote understanding and inspire appreciation of the achievements, contributions and experiences of African Americans, through exhibits, programs, and activities that illustrate African and African American history, culture and art.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    This position requires dynamic leadership and skills needed to lead an important and iconic cultural institution. The Membership Services Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative and customer services support in the areas of membership registration, and membership management. Additional responsibilities include managing and reporting customer membership records across multiple databases, handling member inquiries for individuals and groups, companies, staffing membership tables at selected museum events, and working cooperatively with other museum departments, and with IT and development consultants.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    · Process membership applications and payments.

    · Reviews applications for missing data and determination of correct membership

    · Responsible for emailing welcome letters, invoices and receipts

    · Define and administer strategies for building, launching and maintaining the membership and Volunteer programs including strategies to identify and solicit member and volunteer projects;

    · Work with Marketing team to plan and implement membership campaigns (including but not limiting to direct mail, renewal, on-site) in a timely, creative and strategic manner;

    · Manage and maintain membership database, including list management, data entry, merges, segmentation, and list orders;

    · Create engaging and effective membership opportunities and benefits that attract new members and retain existing members;

    · Train and lead all staff in the use of proven techniques to promote membership, address issues and solve problems.

    · Work to generate member and on-site guest marketing materials and communications. Coordinate and manage Museum representation and membership promotions at community and civic events, as well as onsite Museum events. Supervise the planning and execution of member events.

    · Maintain a thorough understanding of all levels of membership and each level’s respective benefits. Upload and sustain policies tied to membership benefits.

    · Keep abreast of current and future exhibitions, events, educational programs, lectures, etc., and create efficient ways to clearly relay information to members and guests.

    · Act as liaison between the Museum and the Women’s Board. Coordinate all related meetings and assist with coordinating related programs.

    · Coordinate volunteer needs and duties relating to membership and annual giving.

    · Provide reporting of membership trends, sales, promotions, and projections to the Finance department.

    · Work collaboratively with Museum leadership and department managers to deliver excellent service to the Museum staff, members and guests; work with other museum staff to effectively integrate membership into related museum strategies.

    · Together with the other Team members define and actualize the museum-wide goals and the daily steering of the organization.

    · Other duties as assigned.

    Educational Qualifications & Required Skills:

    · Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

    · Experience working in a museum or cultural organization preferred.

    · Strong business acumen, including knowledge of operational standards, budgeting and accounting, strategic planning and personal management.

    · Strong writing and editing experience and skills, with ability to maintain appropriate voice for different audiences and to write about art, public history and culture in an intelligent but accessible way.

    · Significant years of experience in a museum membership environment, volunteer management environment or equivalent required. Experience overseeing the strategic and operational aspects of both a membership and volunteer program required.

    · Strong organizational and time-management skills.

    · Accuracy; strong attention to detail.

    · Able to think broadly and make connections about Museum content.

    · Ability to work effectively and professionally with people at all levels, including the media.

    · Very strong interpersonal skills to work positively and pro-actively across the Museum in meeting deadlines.

    · Ability to work independently as part of a team.

    · Performs well under high energy situations.

    · Capable of adapting to new opportunities and responsibilities.

    · A team player that will integrate well with all staff.
