General Description
Performs advanced (senior-level) geographic information systems (GIS) work. Work involves performing daily activities within the Strategic Mapping (StratMap) Program group to coordinate the input and analysis of geographic information. Develops accurate GIS datasets and other representations of data and expands the Texas Geographic Information Office (TxGIO) available data resources. Serves as the liaison between TxGIO and other state and government agencies to identify needs for TxGIO geographic information services. Serves as lead worker providing direction to others, guiding and training TxGIO interns during their tenure and assisting staff with GIS data problems, and solutions. Communicates with various federal, state, regional, and local governments through outreach to establish working relationships for data sharing and/or data exchange. Develops, updates and maintains statewide land parcel, address point, and boundary datasets. Works with the TxGIO staff to help develop data schemas to normalize land parcel, address point, and boundary datasets from multiple sources into a common structure/standard that benefits state users. Uses GIS technology to develop data and perform analytics required to quality assure products and make them ready for data distribution. Conducts research and analysis to ensure accurate use of data and to resolve conflicting information. Provides consulting services and technical assistance to staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, and the public as needed to support the TxGIO data products. Provides internal and external training as needed to help others understand how the data products are to be used and/or maintained. May train others. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Manager of the TxGIO Strategic Mapping Department.
