    About the Systems Engineer position

    We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and team-oriented Systems Engineer to join our team in Suitland, MD. You will work with a variety of government and contractor teams to collect and analyze requirements for obsolescence redesign, new capabilities, and other improvements to legacy ground system infrastructure. You will help review legacy implementations against new requirements to plan and assist with technical implementation of new solutions. We expect you to have a passion for making things better, researching and testing best-fit solutions, and overcoming challenges.

    Systems Engineer responsibilities are:

    • Lead the development and evaluation of new solutions in response to new sustainment efforts
    • Develop and document CONOPS, architecture diagrams, and requirements analyses
    • Research, test, and recommend commercial off the shelf products and services that satisfy requirements and provide cost and/or performance benefits over existing products
    • Work with procurement and contract departments to purchase materials and services needed to complete sustainment projects
    • Develop, track, and report on overall project status criteria including schedule, cost management, and performance
    • Assist and lead system administrators, network administrators, and other disciplines with installing, integrating, testing, and using new designs, products, and procedures
    • Perform cost/benefit analyses to evaluate several potential solutions to help the government customer decide on the most appropriate solutions

    System Administrator requirements are:

    • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing Windows or Linux server and client systems in enterprise environments

    • Experience leading information technology projects such as technical refreshes, major obsolescence upgrades, infrastructure upgrades, etc.

    • Familiarity with NOAA ground system architecture, missions, and organization

    • Experience with managing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Active Directory domains, users and permissions, Group Policy, and DNS

    • Experience hardening and assessing security policy compliance of endpoints and devices using automated mechanisms to enforce security baselines based on standards such as DISA STIGs and CIS Benchmarks

    • Experience designing, deploying, and administering centralized tools such as McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, Tripwire Log Center, Tripwire Enterprise, BigFix, SolarWinds, and /or WSUS/SCCM

    • Strong understanding of security best practices

    • Strong problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure

    • BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related discipline, or equivalent

    • Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and able to pass a full background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility

    Desired Qualifications are:

    • Experience designing and implementing solutions on federal government, especially NOAA, information systems
    • Experience with vulnerability scanning and assessment tools such as Tenable Nessus
    • Experience supporting virtual server environments using VMware hypervisors and tools
    • Other useful skills and experience such as network administration or programming to assist with cross-team collaboration
    • Experience with Federal government environments and concepts including FedRAMP, NIST Risk Management Framework, NIST SP 800-53 security controls
    • Experience with cloud migrations and/or evaluating on-premise solutions against cloud services
    • Industry certifications such as MCSE/MCSA, A+, Network+, Security+, and GSEC
