    THE ROLE

    Heartwood Community School is seeking a skilled and compassionate Consultant Pediatric Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team on a contract basis. In this role, you will work closely with K-3 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, supporting their communication and educational development in alignment with the school's whole-child approach. You will collaborate with teachers, families, and other professionals to create an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can thrive.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assess students' individual needs related to hearing loss and develop tailored educational plans to support communication, language, and literacy development.
    • Provide direct and consultative services to students, classroom teachers, and support staff to ensure accommodations and strategies are effectively implemented.
    • Support classroom teachers in creating accessible learning environments, including strategies for amplification, visual aids, and modifications for hearing-impaired students.
    • Collaborate with families to ensure alignment between home and school strategies, fostering consistent support for students.
    • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instructional approaches and interventions as needed.
    • Serve as a resource to staff and families, offering training and guidance on supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

    • Education & Experience:
      • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education with a focus on Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education.
      • Current certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
      • Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly in K-3.
    • Skills: * Strong knowledge of assistive technologies and strategies to support hearing-impaired students. * Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team. * Deep commitment to inclusive education and the ability to adapt to diverse learning needs.
    • Preferred Qualifications: * Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). * Experience in auditory-verbal therapy or other communication modalities.

    COMPENSATION

    The salary for this role is $75/hour, before taxes. To uphold our commitment to equitable and fair compensation, we offer a competitive wage and have a no-negotiation policy.

    Part-time contractors are not eligible for paid time off or benefits. They are responsible for paying taxes in accordance with federal and state laws.
