Ignite Achievement Academy is a private, accredited school serving Charlotte, NC students in grades K-12 with special needs and learning differences.

    **This position is located at our North Campus at 3835 W. WT Harris Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28269.

    As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the classroom teacher to support each child's individual instructional plan. Each classroom consists of approximately four to six students who receive a mixture of whole-group instruction and small-group instruction based on their unique learning needs. The Teaching Assistant assists the teacher throughout the day with differentiated instruction and one-on-one student support – typically Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00AM and 3:00PM.

    The Teaching Assistant will deliver supportive instruction aligning to the student's instructional plan, collect data, observe students responses, and work closely with assigned students in small-groups and/or one-on-one. Training is provided in advance of the school year to ensure Teaching Assistants are equipped with the tools and skills necessary to excel in this position.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist the classroom teacher in delivering instructional activities and lessons tailored to the needs of students with disabilities.
    • Support students with their academic, social, and emotional development.
    • Transition students to and from the restroom and provide verbal prompting to maintain bathroom hygiene;
    • Implement and reinforce classroom routines and behavior management strategies.
    • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, ensuring they remain engaged and on task.
    • Foster a safe, nurturing, and respectful classroom environment.
    • Communicate effectively with the classroom teacher and other staff members regarding student progress and needs.
    • Participate in professional development and training sessions as required.
    • Assist with implementing and adapting technology and assistive devices to support student learning.

    Required Qualifications

    • Associate's Degree;
    • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with disabilities;
    • Previous experience working with children with special needs
    • Exemplary written and oral communication skills;
    • Ability to establish a strong and supportive relationship with each assigned student;
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a team;
    • Stamina to actively engage with students throughout the school day and lift up to 50 lbs.;
    • Capability to perform tasks involving physical activities, including standing, walking, and bending;
    • Ability to pass a background check.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree;
    • Teacher certification

    This is an hourly position offering a competitive wage for Teaching Assistants, dependent upon the candidate's skills and experience.
