We are seeking a Technical Editor/Desktop Publisher III conducts comprehensive technical reviews, edits various publications, ensures documents adhere to branding and styling standards, and curates illustrative materials for publication. This includes technical documents, reports, student guides, instructor guides, course materials, newsletters, programs, forms, and other reference materials. The incumbent exercises independent judgment requires administrative supervision to navigate the established program policies and procedures.
Major Duties:
- Edits, proofs, and applies a consistent set of style, grammar, and punctuation practices to conform to style guides and specialized vocabulary of subject matter fields;
- Drafts, edits, and finalizes documents used to establish, modify, explain, or defend organizational policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Creates impactful print and digital campaigns by selecting illustrative materials for inclusion in various publications to conceptualize and deliver print including graphics for articles, presentations, announcements, and events;
- Ensures documents are 508 Compliant and performs quality assurance reviews for brand consistency, grammar, punctuation, tone, design, layout, composition, and production all while adhering to the specifications for various projects;
- Develops internal writing style guide and branding standards to include creating project-specific stylesheets and monitoring brand adherence across all platforms;
- Collaborates with stakeholders to draft written content or brainstorm ideas to synthesize graphics that meets the intent and vision, with limited direction;
- Provides guidance and troubleshooting assistance to the team for various programs and organization templates to include advice on best practices and options for documentation and, in some cases, creates custom templates.
Professional Qualifications/Skills:
- A bachelor's degree in a related field;
- Six (6) years of experience in editing and publication development, two (2) of which need to have been completed at a Technical Editor II level or equivalent;
- Advanced level knowledge of publication design concepts, variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual products;
- Advanced level knowledge of digital compositing (Photo bashing) using Adobe Photoshop or Adobe After Effects;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Excellent command of the English language to include grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
- Strong time management, project management, and multi-tasking skills;
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; and attention to detail;
- Ability to acquire and present, with guidance, technical information gathered through independent reading, interviews with subject matter experts and specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of diagrams, or other appropriate methods;
- Ability to tailor writing and publications for a specific type of audience or technical area;
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and SharePoint);
- A high attention to detail, self-starter, results-driven, and ability to follow through on details is essential.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity, navigate uncertain situations, and drive for clarity;
- Department of State work experience is preferred.
