    ABOUT NEW CITY KIDS New City Kids is a high energy, creative ministry for and with youth in Jersey City and Paterson, NJ and Grand Rapids and Detroit, MI. We are unique in trusting teens with leadership. It is a joyful place filled with laughter and hard work, and has an excellent staff of dedicated adults who love children. We employ local high school students as interns to lead an excellent and unique music- focused after school center and summer camp for children ages 6-13, which provides a platform for a whole host of development opportunities for children. As kids and teens engage New City Kids, we come alongside them and invite them to know the power of the gospel and to become disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Teen Life Internship Coordinator takes the lead role in implementing the Teen Life Internship program, which equips high-school Teen Life Interns to run these After School Centers and provide Interns with excellent spiritual, leadership, academic, and musical development opportunities. They serve in a leadership position, fulfilling a dynamic mixture of leadership, relational, coordination, administrative, and educational responsibilities.

    SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Program Quality - Lead annual goals and program implementation for the Teen Life Internship program at a site of New City Kids—work with Teen Life Internship Director to set and track benchmarks and goals; track and report on the department's progress towards meeting set goals; and ensure that priorities are set to meet goals. Provide leadership, organization and administration to local teen programming, setting positive culture, ensuring quality control and meeting designated goals. Communicate about projects with the team, coordinate its execution & track progress.

    Database Management – Track and update database to ensure that progress is being made towards department goals.

    Provide Job Coaching – Supervise and coach caseload of assigned teens in their work performance. Document teens work attendance, progress towards their goals, disciplinary actions, completion of internship requirements, etc. Do this through observations, performance reviews, frequent check-ins, communication with family, etc. Be the primary work support and advocate for those teens and connect them to the rest of NCK’s programming.

    Provide Relational Support – Develop relationships with the teens to foster a loving environment in which they feel cared about and valued. Schedule one on one appointments to meet with assigned teens. Intentionally develop relationships with them in order to provide relational, emotional and spiritual support.

    Support ASC Programming –The relationship between the ASC Department and the TLI Department is that of client to service provider. Provide excellent service to the ASC Department by making sure ASC goals are well understood and translated to the teen staff. Ensure that the TLI Department is well informed and trained to assist in meeting the needs of the ASC department. This will require numerous points of collaboration and cross departmental evaluation.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Christian Commitment – mature person of Christian faith as defined by the Apostle’s Creed with an active prayer life and church involvement, and aligned with New City Kids’ statement of faith: newcitykids.org/statement-of-faith

    Dedicated Team Member – flexible and willing to complete tasks that fall outside one’s job description, and able to make things happen without being micromanaged

    Emotional maturity – self-aware, teachable, sensitive to cross-cultural issues, and able to maturely deal with youth from broken contexts

    Relational – enjoys listening, spending time with teens, able to gain the trust of teens, and is a professional and mature role model for teens.

    2-3 years of program leadership, staff management, or educational experience required

    Bachelor’s degree and driver’s license required

    Physical Requirements:

    Constantly moves about the center during programming hours

    Regularly moves music equipment, supplies, and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds
