    Job Description

     

    We are looking for outdoor survival skill, primitive and nature science instructors/directors for our spring camps for summer camps from June 7-Aug 20! Outdoor survival skills and nature Instructors lead and mentor a group of 10-14 kids in Grades K-8 every week and guide them through an array of survival skills activities including but not limited to: hiking, shelter building, plant identification, bow drills, animal tracking, rescue techniques, nature science, and some sports games. This position is responsible for helping campers build a sense of team, supporting campers’ sense of comfort and confidence with primitive and survival activities, engaging campers both during and after activities, and maintaining a safety-oriented environment. Activities will be at off-site recreation areas including a few different parks in the local area. Just as important, this job is about inspiring campers in new outdoor pursuits and having fun!

    The CORE Responsibilities of an Instructor:

    • Provide age- and developmentally- appropriate instruction in wilderness survival skills and nature science
    • Lead day camps at various s with a group of up to 14 campers per group. The teaching assistant will be onsite.
    • Serve as a role model and guide campers in appropriate behavior, attitudes, and activities
    • Lead activities at various parks (depending on each camp site)
    • Organize and participate in the camp program, ranging from outdoor sports to camp games and rituals • Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs
    • Be a member of a dynamic staff team and take an active role in the evaluation of campers, programs, and staffs

    Job Requirements:

    • Minimum 19 years of age and a sincere passion for working with kids
    • Bachelor’s degree or current college students in science, education, or related field preferred.
    • Experience teaching nature science, marine science, or primitive & survival wilderness skills and multi sports. • Experience leading youth and a passion for working with kids.
    • First Aid and CPR prior to the start of camp preferred (Staff with Wilderness First Aid or higher do receive additional compensation)

    IMPORTANT DETAILS:

    • STAFF TRAINING: mandatory before the camp starts
    • CAMP DATES:SPRING BREAK CAMP APRIL 12-16;

    SUMMER CAMP June 7-August 20. This position could be renewed after the summer to teach at our outdoor after school program in the fall.

    • WORK WEEK: Monday - Friday, 9am-4pm, about 40 hours/week
