Temporary Civil Engineering Intern

Department: Public Works / Engineering Department

Pay: Minimum $17.00/hour to $21.00/hour (DOQ) plus 70 cents per mile.

Position Available: May 19, 2025

Total Hours for Position: Generally during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday. Temporary assignment is for approximately 12 weeks, not to exceed 500 hours.

The City of Creve Coeur is seeking a Temporary Civil Engineering Intern to join our team. The successful candidate will work in the Public Works/Engineering Department and assist engineering project managers with field work, and technical tasks for public works projects. Tasks may include performing a sidewalk condition rating survey, creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, entering data and creating reports in various software applications, performing field data collection or investigation, construction management, and compiling and organizing data or documents. Approximately half of the work will be done outside. This is a temporary assignment and does not offer fringe benefits.

Job Description:

• Assist in field and office tasks necessary to complete facility inventory within the City.
• Assist with the integration of inventory into City's Geographic Information System platform.
• Assist with ongoing public works construction projects.
• Assist the City Engineer with the preparation of reports and memorandums.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Skills:

• Capable of conducting research and duties as listed above.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
• Possess good time management skills and an attention to detail.
• Ability to multi-task and make sound decisions.
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate dependability.
• Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
• Display strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and tactfully with diverse populations, both verbally and in writing, is essential.

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from high school or equivalent. The preferred candidate is enrolled in an undergraduate Civil Engineering program and/or a Technical College. Must possess a valid driver's license, provide proof of current vehicle insurance, and have reliable transportation. Business casual attire is required. Travel (50-80%) within the city limits of Creve Coeur, Missouri. Must possess the ability to hear verbal conversations and have visual aptitude required to read printed material. This role will require frequently walking, stooping, and bending as well as entering and exiting from a personal vehicle at various site locations, and the manual dexterity to write and type on a computer keyboard.
