With a mission to enrich and inspire our community through exceptional live performances, Celebrity Series has become a mainstay of Boston's cultural life by bringing a widening spectrum of performers to Boston's major concert halls. Celebrity Series presents over 70 subscription series performances in 10 different venues, and over 150 community engagement activities annually. Celebrity Series' audiences experience the world's great orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists, and leading artists in contemporary dance, jazz, global, and folk music, and spoken word. Alongside the subscription series performances, Celebrity Series' Arts for All! community engagement programs introduce the joy of live performance and connect with a dynamic network of hundreds of community collaborators, reaching thousands of individuals annually.

Position: Temporary Concert Producer

Department: Performance Operations

Immediate Supervisor: Chief Operating Officer

Supervises: project-specific personnel (independent contractors)

FSLA: Non-exempt, part-time, approx. 15-20 hrs/week, $30-40/hr

Duration: Approx. mid-December 2024 until mid-May 2025

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Concert Producer is a temporary role covering a short-term leave in the Performance Operations department. The Producer will manage concert-related details for a defined portfolio of about 10 subscription series concerts at various venues across Boston and Cambridge. The Producer is a primary contact for the organization with venue staff, artists and their representation, and vendors. The Producer will create a performance experience for audiences and artists on behalf of Celebrity Series consistent with organizational values and goals.

At least 1 day/week of in-office attendance is expected, ideally Wednesdays with the full team.

Concert portfolio and at-venue availability to be discussed in first round interviews.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Production/Operations Management

• Directly manages technical and logistical details for a select portfolio of Celebrity Series presentations and occasional special projects
• Serves as liaison between venue management and artist representation to facilitate all concert-related requests, including equipment, rehearsal, travel, backstage and hospitality needs
• Supervises load-in/out, work calls, rehearsals, and manages stage crew and contract-based production managers and technical support staff at performance venues
• Collaborates as needed with other departments so artist-related activities are fully integrated into priorities of organizations
• Maintains a comfortable and safe environment for artists and participants in related events

Financial

• Manages costs of production-related line items, with a focus on proactive, creative solutions while maintaining quality
• Reviews event financial settlements with artists, venues, and partners as needed
• Tracks all event-related expenses in event expense reports

Organizational Communication

• Facilitates proactive and professional communication between staff of the venue, artist, and presenter
• Maintains regular contact with colleagues, especially Artistic Director and other department members, to support cross-departmental projects that have artist and performance implications, including, but not limited to: program book copy, special events, educational and audience engagement initiatives, advancement initiatives, and various team meetings
• Utilizes technology including Asana, Artifax Event Online, and Microsoft365, to facilitate cross-departmental conversation

REQUIREMENTS:

• Detail-oriented self-starter who can handle multiple projects at a time and excel in fast-paced environment. Follow-through is essential to success in this position
• Strong knowledge of performing arts required (classical music a plus)
• Able to work evenings and weekends as required
• Demonstrated previous experience supervising performance-related theatrical and concert personnel (stage and house crews, outside contractors, FOH staff, etc.)
• Minimum 5 years direct experience in live performing arts management, including working knowledge of theatrical and concert hall elements
• Commitment to advancing anti-racism efforts in the workplace

Work Environment

The Celebrity Series offices are located at 20 Park Plaza, Suite 220 in Boston's Back Bay. The building is convenient to public transportation and fully accessible. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 9am to 5pm. Work is often required off-site, yet within the Greater Boston area. This position allows for a limited opportunity for remote work.
