    Job Description

    The mission of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is to promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers employers, individuals and communities the opportunity to achieve and sustain economic prosperity. To support our mission, we are looking for a Field Operations Specialist to join the Field Support Services team. This position is with the Field Support Services Department and will be located in Tyler, at 3800 Paluxy Dr., Ste. 325, Tyler, TX 75703 or 1121 ESE Loop 323, Bldg 1, Ste. 106, Tyler, TX 75701.

    The Field Operations Specialist performs highly complex (senior-level) computer systems support work. Work involves providing customer support for agency information systems and operating automated office equipment in a stand-alone, network, or mainframe environment. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

    The ideal candidate will have a college degree in computer science with two years work experience in the field with computer equipment and software; understands knowledge of computer software: various adaptive technologies, Microsoft Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, relational database management, business and presentation graphics, electronic mail, and agency-developed applications; and understands installation procedures and operation of assistive hardware and software.

    GENERAL DUTIES:
    -Provides computer skills training related to the VRS Consumer Case Management System, adaptive technology and accessibility software and also serves as a mentor.
    -Develops and maintains close working relations with appropriate VRS and TWC Central Office staff, local managers and staff.
    -Uses trouble shooting techniques to identify dimensions of a problem, determine potential causes and specify possible solutions.
    -Oversees MS Windows based computer system functionalities to backup and restore electronic files; copy/transfer program or data files between electronic media, develop computer file directories, and perform advanced searches to locate files.
    -Oversees Windows workstation support in a networked environment.
    -Oversees computer hardware components.
    -Manages multiple tasks and establishes priorities.
    -Develops and delivers classroom skills training on hardware and software products using adult learning techniques.
    -Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.
    -Maintains confidentiality.
    -Conforms to established policies and procedures.
    -Effectively handles interpersonal conflict, customer complaints and time demands.
    -Performs other duties as assigned and required to meet the mission and goals of the division.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with at least 12 semester hours in computer science or related subject area and at least two (2) years experience in the computer field related to the essential job functions, as well as the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position.

    The interview process will include several skill demonstrations; applicants selected for interview can anticipate a four hour interview process. Applicants who qualify for an interview based on education will be asked to provide a copy of their college transcript at the time of the interview, and will need to provide an official copy of their transcript if selected for the position.

    This position involves the potential of extensive travel up to 60% of the time. The selected applicant must be able to travel as needed.

    The salary for this position is $3,081.33 to $4,000.00 per month, depending on qualifications.
