    Funding for this position begins September 1, 2017. The applicant selected for hire will begin employment September 1, 2017 or later.

    The mission of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is to promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers employers, individuals and communities the opportunity to achieve and sustain economic prosperity. To support our mission, we are seeking to fill an Accounts Examiner (AE) I position in the San Antonio Tax Department which is located at 4801 NW Loop 410 San Antonio, TX 78229.

    The Accounts Examiner I performs entry-level accounts examination work. Work involves examining and auditing operating reports and financial accounting records; and collecting taxes, fees, or penalties. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

    The ideal candidate will have good organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines. Therefore, a written exercise may be given at interview stage.

    GENERAL DUTIES:
    - Establishes employment tax liability, opens and closes employer tax accounts and ensures employers are complying with the TUCA.
    - Collects delinquent reports and taxes by contacting employers; audits forms from employers for accuracy, completeness and compliance; reviews employer accounting records including payroll, general ledgers, profit and loss statements and federal reports; prepares employer quarterly reports or makes adjustments as necessary; and assists employers in preparation of tax forms.
    - Performs a variety of skip tracing techniques and investigations.
    - Recommends collection action to the State Office when appropriate.
    - Communicates with employers, legislators, and state or federal agencies to provide information regarding the TUCA and other state and federal laws.
    - Performs frequent telephone contact to obtain information necessary to resolve account problems, answer questions and provide quality customer service.
    - Organizes heavy workload in order to resolve concurrent assignments and meet deadlines.
    - Speaks to employer groups and organizations of accounting professionals.
    - May work with out of state employer accounts.
    - May testify at hearings and before courts.
    - Performs related work as needed or assigned.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    - Experience or education in accounting or auditing.
    - Experience in investigations.
    - Experience in collections.
    - Experience with payroll records.
    - Experience in reviewing or adjusting accounts.
    - Experience in providing information regarding the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act.
    - Personal computer programs experience, including Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
    - Public speaking skills.
    - Excellent verbal and written communication skills are strongly preferred.

    The salary range for this position is $2,806.00 per month depending on qualifications.
