Mentor Teacher/Coach – Little Learners Early Education Program

The Department of Communication Studies invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach courses in Sports Journalism or Sports Broadcasting at the undergraduate level.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibility of adjunct faculty is to deliver instruction in the manner determined by the department in courses including, but not limited to, Sports Writing and Broadcasting, Communicating Sports History and Economics, and Sports Communication and Public Relations. In addition, faculty responsibilities may include:
Adhere and teach to the Course Learning Objectives and curriculum for assigned classes as established in the Communication Studies and Journalism Curriculum Guide.
Preparation of syllabi in compliance with the APU Faculty Guidelines for Undergraduate Course Syllabi.
Complete an Individual Development Educational Assessment (IDEA) for each course taught.
Determine student mastery of material and assign final course grades from evaluation of tests, quizzes, homework, and other assignments and activities related to course material. Submit grades according the University procedures and deadlines.
Adhere to the policies and regulations of Azusa Pacific University as set forth in the Adjunct Contract.
Being available to students outside of classroom hours via email or telephone for a set number of hours per week.
Participation in departmental activities as identified by the department chair or program director.
Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have a master’s or terminal degree in the field of JOURNALISM, BROADCAST MEDIA, or PUBLIC RELATIONS.
• Preferred experience includes teaching at the college or university level.
• Preferred work experience in Sports Writing, Broadcasting, or Public Relations.
• The ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
• A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University.
WORKLOAD
Assigned teaching duties will not exceed 9 units per semester; office hours and additional duties may be assigned. Total workload will not exceed 29 hours per week, nor 24 units per 12-month period.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Customer-service oriented with good verbal and written communication skills for interaction with a variety of people inside and outside of the organization. Ability to elicit, interpret, analyze and evaluate given information relative to underwriting guidelines and lender requirements. Excellent organization skills and detail-oriented aptitude. General administrative abilities to include typing, filing and use of computer, calculator, copier and facsimile machines.
