DAY PROGRAM SPECIALIST
30 HOURS PER WEEK: MONDAY-FRIDAY, HOURS WILL VARY BETWEEN 8A-5P
As a Day Program Specialist, you will support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their individual pursuit of a fulfilling life. You will provide person-centered support and training in job readiness skills, job exploration, social skills, health and wellness, self-care, self-advocacy, math, reading, safety, and community access skills.
- Maximizing independence by teaching various life, vocational, social, and recreational skills
- Engaging individuals in meaningful activities throughout the day
- Providing personal assistance as necessary, including assistance with personal hygiene, lifting and transferring
- Assisting people with developing knowledge and access of community resources
- Transporting people to various locations within the community
- Supporting people with the job exploration/job development process
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with no more than 2 current points on record
- Intermediate skill using the computer and accessing internet-based programs for documentation & payroll purposes
- Clean criminal record (The Arc provides programs, services, and direct care to vulnerable adults.)
- The ability to successfully pass a drug screening
- The ability to complete CPR, First Aid, Certified Medication Technician, and other trainings mandated by the Developmental Disabilities Administration and The Arc
- Innovation with locating and accessing community resources & activities independently
- Willingness to utilize personal vehicle for transportation when necessary (mileage is reimbursed!)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/manipulate at least 50 pounds frequently with ability to lift/manipulate in excess of 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling and pushing, to include lifting a wheelchair and repositioning an individual
- Ability to transfer individual in and out of a wheelchair, to position an individual on a sling or Hoyer lift, and to physically secure an individual in a wheelchair to a van with tie-downs
