    National Director of Group Exercise

    Reporting to the VP of Fitness Services, the Group Fitness Director plays a critical functional leadership role as part of The Edge Fitness Club’s corporate operations leadership team. The Group Exercise Director is responsible for the development and execution of The Edge Fitness Clubs Group Exercise Programming strategy, and provides leadership in the fulfillment of The Edge’s mission, vision and philosophy.     Duties & Responsibilities:

    Group Fitness Program Leadership:

    Creates an unparalleled member experience by building a Group Fitness Program strategy to meet the diverse needs of new and existing members.

    Defines new ways to connect with members. Partners with Marketing to lead Group Fitness demand creation plan, including marketing and promotion, regional pricing, ongoing competitive analysis and market research, as needed.

    Responsible for the continuous improvement and evolution of our Group Exercise program, including new program development. Monitors and responds to program quality and trends. Pilots all new programs and/or processes in a single club to evaluate effectiveness prior to full launch.

    Analyzes business performance and industry trends to identify improvement and/or growth opportunities. Builds third party partnerships to continuously enhance and improve The Edge Fitness Club’s Group Exercise programing.

    Responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of the Group Exercise Program Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the Group Fitness schedules.

    Establishes and maintains processes that ensure that The Edge Fitness Club’s Group Exercise team is delivering best in class programs and helping members to achieve results. Promotes member and team success stories.

    Financial Performance:

    Partners with Finance to build annual Group Exercise budget for corporate and all locations.

    Establishes Group Exercise performance goals strategies and tactics, at a corporate, area, and club level, in partnership with Area and Club level leaders.

    Establishes and monitors key performance metrics and reporting to ensure clubs are achieving or exceeding Group Exercise performance objectives.

    Establishes action plans and daily or weekly reporting processes to ensure visibility and delivery of results.

    Recruitment & Training:

    Provides leadership of the group exercise recruitment strategy, selection process and compensation planning for the Group Exercise department, in partnership with HR and Club General Managers.

    Develops, implements and maintains national Group Exercise training programs, in partnership with the training team. Translates Group Exercise processes and best practices into instructional training design. Assists with delivery of Group Exercise training as needed.

    Oversees training and orientation of Fitness Managers in all Club locations.

    Defines Group Exercise staff job descriptions, expectations and qualifications at all levels.

    People Management:

    Provides coaching, mentorship, feedback, recognition and support to club level Managers to facilitate their success and skills development. Responsible for Succession Planning to facilitate retention and growth of key and top talent in Group Exercise department.

    Provides input and participates in performance assessment and termination processes for Group Exercise Instructors, in partnership with HR, and Club Operations Management team.

    Establishes and develops a collaborative and results-focused Group Exercise team. Leads ongoing team building and leadership development activities.

    In partnership with the Operations Team, participates in the monthly business review of the Group Exercise department. Participates in regular calls with club leadership. Shares best practices and intelligence (growth, competitive analysis, market trends and business environment) to provide integrated, consistent services and operations.

    Provides input and coaching to the Group Exercise Manager on effective staff scheduling within budget.

    Club Operations:

    As a member of the corporate club operations leadership team, develop an in-depth understanding of club operations and key functions across all departments with a view to improving processes and services while driving total club revenue and profitability.

    Promotes an engaging and welcoming environment to all employees, members and visitors.

    Creates a culture and environment consistent with company values and standards for employees and members.

    Education & Experience:

    A degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred.

    5 years of leadership and people management experience including proven success in leading, coaching and motivating teams and individuals to achieve goals and objectives across multiple locations.

    3 years Group Fitness programming, scheduling or related experience, working in the customer service industry, is required. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement programs.

    5 years of Group Fitness Instructor experience (leading Yoga, Step, Pilates, Spin, Boxing, Strength & Cardio, Dance, Core & Tone classes) is required.

    One nationally recognized Group Exercise Certification is required. Additional certifications to teach specialized classes, special populations such as seniors, pre-/post-natal and adapted fitness are an asset.

    CPR & First Aid are required and must be maintained through employment.

    Related industry experience required (i.e. retail, hospitality, leisure, fitness, etc.).

    High-energy, self-directed individual who is able to work autonomously.

    A passion for fitness. Demonstrated knowledge of fitness environment.

    Excellent people skills and a friendly, responsible, service-oriented attitude are required.

    Strong organization, time management and problem solving skills are required.

    Ability to create and sustain a culture of service focused on hospitality, caring, welcoming and fun.
