    Summary

    Join our team at a premier senior living community in Richmond, VA where you will have an opportunity to support their vibrant residents in fitness programming. The Health Fitness Specialist Substitute is called upon when the full-time fitness staff use their PTO. This position follows the direction of the Fitness Manager to assist in management of the day-to-day operations in their beautiful fitness amenities including a pool, fitness center, and group fitness studio. You will have the opportunity to grow and gain experience in setting customer service standards, maintaining ACSM facility standards and guidelines, working with members, maintaining a group fitness program, and other duties as assigned. This position is per diem (as needed), so you can take the shifts that work for you.

    Essential Duties

    · Teaches group exercise classes onsite; provides a range of acceptable activities to meet various fitness levels of class participants; adheres to appropriate safety guidelines while keeping classes inviting, challenging, and well-attended

    · Supervises fitness center and uses educational background and other relevant training to accurately and safely answer member questions related to health, fitness, and wellbeing

    · Assesses health status of members, ranging from apparently healthy to high risk, to provide exercise and other wellness-related counsel/recommendations unique to each individual through exercise prescriptions, fitness assessments and other related services

    · Conducts orientations according to the facility layout, membership policies/procedures, and Quality Assurance guidelines

    · Establishes an ongoing positive and professional rapport with members

    · Supports special events (e.g., races, charity walks)

    · Cross-trains to learn some responsibilities of other full-time staff onsite

    · Partners with other staff to help clean equipment and other areas of the facility as needed

    · Demonstrates work ethic, ingenuity, customer care, and attention to detail

    · Maintains familiarity with and abides by the policies stated in the NIFS Employee Handbook

    · Performs other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Education, Experience & Requirements

    • Degree in a health-related field preferred or working toward degree

    • Relevant work experience and training required; experience with older adult clientele preferred

    • Ability to teach basic balance, chair exercise and muscle conditioning group fitness classes; where applicable, aquatic experience preferred

    • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification required

    • ACSM and other Industry Certifications acknowledged

    • May, at any time, be required to submit to and successfully pass a thorough background check and/or drug screen
