    Job Description

    The Manager, Certification, Global Supplier Quality, is responsible for maintaining various individual certification programs for all of The Nature’s Bounty Co.'s products, including Kof-K Kosher, IFANCA Halal Food, Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), NSF Non-GMO, NASC and Quality Assurance International (QAI) Organic. The Manager is willing to work with  cross functional teams, as well as suppliers, ensuring all certification requirements are communicated and all certification related documents/product dossiers are maintained. 

    Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Ensuring that the company is up to date with all certification standard changes and the work being done complies with certification standards. 
    • Gather and analyze complex data from various suppliers and identify where action is required based on the data.
    • Be well versed on each individual certification program process requirements and their portal systems to upload necessary documentation.
    • Be well versed on each individual certification standard and work closely with 3rd party certifying bodies in ensuring up to date information is kept on files for all of the six certification standards.
    • Proactively work with internal teams in ensuring any new changes to the standards are communicated and action plans developed to ensure products stay compliant at all times. 
    • Review and provide input/assessment and approval on all RMVR requests, Change control requests, Label changes, Label Manuscript changes.
    • Participate in company initiatives as it relates to certification strategies, provide input on impacts of acquiring different certifications (Cost, Complexity, resource evaluation etc)
    • Reviewing product formulations, quality specifications, raw material documents and other supporting documentation to ensure that all are in line with certification programs requirements.
    • Identify areas for improvement and tracking implementation of all bulk changes.
    • Project Management.
    • Maintain database of information and provide to certifying bodies as requested and required.
    • Gather and provide information to each individual certification program for raw material changes, supplier changes, formulation changes and new bulks introduced for certification for each individual program requirement.
    • Maintain document control system, both electronic and paper to keep all certifications current. 
    • Develop, monitor and track action plans for any bulks in question of losing certification(s).
    • Maintains certification agreements and annuals costs.
    • Prepare and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) that support certification program requirements.
    • Create summary reports, action plans and implement tracking measures to verify effective completion 
    • Participate in new product development initiatives, working with Brand Management, Research & Development, Technical Services, Regulatory, and Procurement.
    • Conduct audits/reviews of suppliers to ensure compliance with certification program requirements.
    • Manage training program at site with respect to certifications to ensure personnel are trained based on what is required for each individual certification program.
    • Identify potential compliance risks to the operational plans, and propose options to mitigate risks.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining accurate product labeling information for finished products to ensure compliance for each individual certification program.
    • Work with Regulatory, R&D, Tech Services, and Procurement to ensure that the raw materials used in formulas meet requirements of each individual certification program.
    • Prepare document packages for document submissions for various certifications.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 7+ years of experience in the food, pharmaceutical and/or nutraceutical industry
    • Knowledge of third-party certification standards [e.g. Organic, Non-GMO Project, GFCO, Halal etc.]
    • Experience in implementing and/or improving quality systems 
    • Project management experience
    • Knowledge of regulatory and GXP (the "good practice" quality guidelines and regulations) compliance requirements such as 21 CFR Part 111, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), HARPC (Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls).
    • SQF (Safe Quality Food) practitioner, FSSC (FSSC 22000 Food Safety System Certification), BRC (British Retail Consortium), ISO (International Organization for Standardization) preferred.
    • Working knowledge of cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) for foods and dietary supplements
    • Knowledge and application of ISO based quality management systems
    • Understanding of and ability to interpret regulations and audit/certification standards for supplements and foods and effectively apply them to the implementation and/or enhancement of programs and quality systems
    • Management of record control and documentation of paper files and electronic files at shared drive.  
    • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical, Food Science, Chemical Engineering or Science related field. Other closely related discipline with extensive experience can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
    • ASQ CQE (American Society for Quality) or CQM (Certified Quality Engineer) preferred
    • Must be able to review, interpret and summarize technical information.
    • Must have the ability to quickly learn new systems/procedures, know how to utilize available resources and be willing to learn
    • Evidence of strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working with a team
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficient in Computer Software: Oracle, PQM, Microsoft Word, etc.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel pivot tables and advanced functions
    • Ability to data mine Oracle PQM (Product Quality Management) and other database such as Lotus Notes, AS400.
    • Must be proficient with PC programs, i.e. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
    • Problem solving and statistical skills using quality tools (Pareto analysis, statistical process control, multi-variant DOE, 8D, etc.)
    • Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and meet timelines with minimal supervision
