Public Relations, Media and Events Coordinator
Job Description
The Public Relations, Media and Events Coordinator will coordinate the social media outlets, coordinate and lead events as assigned, communicate The Salvation Army’s message through social media and connect to media outlets for sharing our story.
DUTIES:
I. EVENTS
1. Work with SV Coordinators to lead and coordinate the planning and execution of existing seasonal events.
2. Work with SV Coordinators to create and implement new fundraising and community events.
3. Communicate and collaborate with the Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that all events are fully covered.
4. Work with Divisional Headquarters Donor Relations Director and Corporate Relations to help maintain relationships with companies that support The Salvation Army locally for all events.
5. Create and maintain all needed materials for all events.
6. Responsible for the booking of venues, photographers, food, and other resources related to events.
7. Ensure that all Salvation Army procedures and requirements are met to execute events.
8. Work with all Managers/Directors to coordinate events as needed.
9. Coordinate with vendors, exhibitors, and stakeholders during the event planning process to ensure everything is in order.
10. Coordinate all event set-up, tear down and follow-up processes.
11. Responsible for generating acknowledgments, thank-you notes, and reporting final Gift in Kind.
12. Maintain event budgets.
13. Conduct initial and final inspections for events to ensure everything adheres to the standards.
14. Assess an event’s overall success and submit findings.
15. Coordinate A/V production, when needed.
16. Maintain active social media presence through events
17. Record video and take photos during events.
II. SOCIAL MEDIA
1. Manage the Silicon Valley Salvation Army’s social media accounts
2. Create current relevant media that engages our social media followers
3. Design and create the graphics and pictures in such ways that are engaging and uphold the image of The Salvation Army
4. Devise methods to increase the number of individuals/groups viewing and following our accounts
5. Interview clients and staff (following Salvation Army protocols) to develop engaging posts and videos that share the impact The Salvation Army is having in their lives
III. PUBLIC RELATIONS
1. Communicate The Salvation Army’s message to media outlets
2. Develop relationships and engaging stories to attract media outlets to share our story on TV and radio
3. Establish and maintain media contacts
4. Connect with service clubs to create opportunities for The Salvation Army to share at their meetings
5. Share our message with corporate entities in order to help them, their staff and customers know more about The Salvation Army in Silicon Valley
6. Working with the SV Coordinators and SV Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator to help create opportunities for volunteering from corporate entities, service groups and clubs
7. Help connect with colleges, universities and other young adults to build our Echelon Advisory Board
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Marketing or Communications is preferred
· Create engaging graphic arts
· Excellent communication skills and experience in working with non-profits is desirable. Ability to work with diverse communities; strong verbal and written skills are essential
· Able to work within a team environment
· Proactive problem solver
· Maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials
· Must have organizational skills including multitasking, time management, and office systems (including maintaining files)
· Reliable and dependable
· Microsoft Office products, (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher) with a demonstrated ability to create correspondence and maintain spreadsheets and databases Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Must be goal-oriented and self-motivated
· Must demonstrate good judgement and act in a professional manner

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to function in a modern office environment.
2. Ability to lift 25 pounds.
