About Club:
The Club will be an exclusive private 36-hole links style golf course with 2 accompanying 9-hole Par 3 courses located in northwest Texas, just outside the town of Childress. The Club will have more than $5 million in equipment assets under management. Construction of the first golf course, designed by Tom Doak, will commence November 2023 and the construction of the second golf course, designed by Gil Hanse, will commence in November 2024. The Club and courses will take full advantage of its location along the Prairie Dog Town Fork of The Red River on the western edge and the sand dunes on the eastern edge that is reminiscent of Scotland. The Private Club will be a destination club with 150 members with lodging and airport access 10 minutes from the Club.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Golf Course Maintenance will be integral part of the construction, launching an ongoing maintenance of the golf course and will assist in the oversight of golf course construction. The Assistant Director of Golf Course Maintenance will also be fully responsible for the golf courses, including the maintenance, operations, conditions, management, preparations, and improvements. The Assistant Director will fulfill these responsibilities as a hands-on leader, through positive and effective leadership by developing, training, managing, coaching, and motivating the golf course team.

Essential Job Functions:
- Effectively hire, lead, develop, train, manage, coach, motivate, and direct the golf course team.
- Assist in the oversight and management of course construction, ensuring courses are being constructed per specifications, on budget and on time and identifying and recommending corrective action as necessary.
- Maintain both 18-hole golf courses and the two accompanying par 3 courses to always ensure exemplary playing conditions.
- Develop the maintenance programs for the care and condition of courses, including turf management, irrigation, fertilization, and pesticide applications.
- Inspect courses regularly to evaluate, recommend, and direct both routine and large-scale improvements.
- Work with Director of Golf Course Maintenance & the Property Manager to plan maintenance, improvements, and renovation projects for golf course.
- Develop or assist in preparing annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvements of the golf course in accordance with established maintenance standards and long-range plans.
- Manage and oversee all golf course expenditures and exercise cost control measures, report any discrepancies and implement corrective action, and maintain operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets.
- Plan and direct all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic, business, and administrative expertise to achieve outstanding course maintenance standards and long-term goals.
- Manage course construction projects and renovations, report any variances, and implement corrective action.
- Lead or assist in the interviewing and selection of the course team and direct, manage, oversee, develop, train, coach the team—including but not limited to assistants, spray technicians, and other staff responsible for maintaining the course.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with Course Superintendents, offering assistance and knowledge with the sole purpose of making the Club’s golf courses and team better.
- Research, source, recommend, and utilize equipment and supplies to maintain the course, while maximizing course conditions and enhancing staff productivity. Oversee or assist with associated equipment maintenance programs and inventory control. Maintain accountability for the cost, utilization, and performance of course equipment.
- Develop, recommend, implement, maintain, and oversee the course drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
- Identify preventative measures, assess turf damage, and recommend, implement, and oversee the application and treatment of proper pesticides, fertilizers, and nutrients to improve the course.
- Ensure chemicals, petroleum, and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations; maintain required records, and strive to minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products.
- Oversee accurate and complete record keeping for course maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, inventory, weather, timekeeping, and payroll for the team.
- Implement and ensure the course team understands and exercises safe work practices.
- Work closely with Golf Operations management to prepare for daily play, tournaments, and events.
Expected Experience, Skills, Abilities, Knowledge and Education:
- Must be coachable and willing to develop the operation, agronomic, and personnel systems at the Club, while simultaneously providing input from their own past experiences.
- Experience or knowledge in maintaining both cool and warm season grasses.
- Have a BS or Associates Degree in turf grass management, or related certificate or equivalent experience.
- Leadership experience as a course superintendent or assistant superintendent at a premier golf course with a proven record of having exceptional course conditions.
- Experience leading, developing, training, managing, coaching, motivating, and assisting the golf course team.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in preparing and managing golf course budgets, including time and motion analysis, labor budgets, and operational budgets.
- Possess thorough understanding of pest control products and their applications.
- Possess thorough understanding of turf chemical and fertilizer products and their applications.
- Have expert knowledge in irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Have experience with course construction, renovations, and major projects.
- Possess strong listening skills, while being open-minded to new perspectives and ideas.
- Possess an understanding of the game of golf and what is expected by the players with regards to course conditions, and an understanding of the impact agronomic decisions have on the playability of the course.
- Have a valid driver’s license, with clean driving record.
- Have a current state Pesticide Applicator License, or the ability to acquire a license in the state of Texas.
- Possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language, and effectively communicate with and direct individuals who have limited or no English.
