A Therapeutic Mentor (TM) provides essential support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, or other special needs. This role involves assisting clients with daily living activities, helping them achieve their personal goals, promoting independence, and ensuring their safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Personal Care Assistance: Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility.
Behavioral Support: Implement individualized behavior plans, using positive reinforcement and other techniques to promote appropriate behaviors.
Skill Development: Work with clients to develop and improve life skills, including communication, socialization, and job readiness skills.
Household Management: Perform light housekeeping and meal preparation
Health and Safety: Monitor and document health status, including medication administration, ensuring clients' safety at all times, and responding to emergencies as needed.
Community Engagement: Support clients in participating in community activities, social events, promoting inclusion and interaction with others.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely records of client progress, behaviors, medical issues, and other relevant information.
Collaboration: Work closely with a team of healthcare professionals to provide holistic care.
Advocacy: Act as a positive advocate for the rights and preferences of clients, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect.
Qualifications :
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role is preferred, but not required.
Skills: Strong communication skills, patience, empathy, and the ability to work in a team environment.
Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification, Oregon Intervention System (OIS), can be provided upon hire if necessary.
Therapeutic Mentors may work in a variety of settings, including group homes or community environments. Shift work is required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
