    Summary

    Responsible for maintaining all injection molding machines tools, auxiliary mold equipment, mold storage,

    mold repair equipment, repair supplies and design modifications. Tooling technician ensures that repairs

    and setups are completed in a safely manner.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Maintain molds in good repair, including checking/lubricating as scheduled/needed

    • Trouble-shoot all mold-related problems, identify damage or wear issues within an injection mold

    and make corrections; differentiate between process-related problems, mold-related problems and

    machine related problems

    • Repair and make modifications to molds

    • Capability to repair and/or fabricate cores, cavities and various other components of an injection

    mold

    • Work closely with process technicians and setup technicians to verify mold installation and

    operations is accurate

    • Perform preventative maintenance of injection molds by conducting planned mold inspection

    which includes the disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of intricate mold tooling

    • Manage spare mold tooling part inventory

    • Verify mold tooling dimensional conformance to print tolerances using component and reliable

    measurement techniques

    • Read and interpret manuals and documents

    • Skillfully operate and manufacture custom parts using mill, drill press, lathe, mill, grinder and other

    shop equipment

    • Help coordinate external services

    • Assemble special tools and fixtures

    • Help with internal tooling

    • Assist production as a set-up mechanic or machine operator/grinder as needed

    • Perform duties such as maintain reports/files, prepare reports, order supplies and parts as

    needed

    • Ability to operate equipment; operate overhead crane

    • Work within existing parameters of designed equipment

    • Note unsafe conditions/practices and report same to Production Manager

    • Meet performance goals agreed on

    • Maintain a clean work area

    • Maintain safety standards within the mold repair and storage area

    • Follow all department and company-wide safety policies and procedures

    • Communicate effectively and professionally with superiors and co-workers in a team environment

    • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job

    • Other duties as assigned

    Position Specifications and Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    • Technical school degree and/or 2-3 years equivalent experience required

    • Minimum 5 years of experience with hands on in Mold maintenance and making modifications to

    molds

    • Journeyman tool and die certificate required

    • Significant knowledge of the injection molding process and equipment, PVC and/or CPVC material

    characteristics

    • Ability to understand, read, write English, Bi-Lingual in Spanish would be a plus

    • Excellent mechanical/electrical aptitude and ability to adapt and learn

    • Ability to Negotiate with vendors

    • High math aptitude

    • Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Must be able to read, write and speak English

    • Good organizational skills

    • Proven ability to be; creative, and a problem solver

    • Must work well with or without supervision

    • Ability to use drill press, lathe and mills

    • Excellent organizational skills

    • Time management skills

    • Ability to understand implications of new information for both present and future problem-solving

    and decision making options

    • Ability to work as part of a team

    Physical and Mental Demands

    • Standing/sitting – Standing with continuous movement for up to 12 hours

    • Lifting/Carrying – Push, pull and/or lift up to 100 pounds frequently

    • Bending/Reaching – Frequent bending and reaching with full extension of arms overhead

    • Walking/Climbing – Frequent walking, occasional climbing

    • Hand Tasks – Good manual dexterity required (both hands) for removing, packing,

    measuring parts.

    • Mental Capacity – Above average math skills for measuring, estimating and checking parts

    for correct dimensions, and process calculations

    Salary info:

    $20 - $32 / hr
