    Salary Level: Start: $12.65 - Max Rate: $20.35 (R3)

    SUMMARY

    Under general supervision, this individual is responsible for duties of a semi-skilled level.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Responsible for semi-skilled electrical work such as: wiring, replacing fuses and bulbs, and conduit work.
    • Use of power tools and hand tools.
    • Operation and maintenance of machinery including jack hammer, power saw, boring and tapping machine.
    • Store tools, supplies, materials, and equipment when not in use.
    • Assist in installation and repair of Water and Wastewater lines; joining and sealing of pipes; assist in construction of manholes and forms; and repair or installation of fire hydrants.
    • Knowledge of general servicing schedules of vehicles and equipment such as greasing and lubing; oil changes; repair of tires; air, oil, and fuel filter; etc.
    • Dig out, grade and fill ditches and potholes. Perform any other duties as assigned.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    • Knowledge of tools and test instruments and equipment used in construction and electrical work.
    • Knowledge to operate hand, air, and electric tools and equipment necessary for repair and maintenance of vehicles.
    • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
    • Regular prompt attendance is an essential function to this position.
    • The ability to get along and promote a harmonious working environment with vendors, supervisors, citizens, and co-workers is an essential function of this position.
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situation

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
