    Job Description

    The Resource Coordinator Medical Assistant reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

    This position will assist in directing and overseeing the operational needs of the medical assistant staff. The clinical resource coordinator will be responsible for assigning daily duties and managing clinical schedules, inventory maintenance and ordering/purchasing to meet the needs of the clinic, and in doing so, stay in line with budgetary constraints.

    Description

    • Coordinate the daily activities of the department. Provide advice and assistance in handling special situations or problems. Monitor department operations and take appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective completion of all tasks and projects.
    • Assist Practice manager and Clinical Operations Coordinator with the scheduling of daily and monthly work for department to ensure adequate staffing levels to complete required tasks. Analyze and prioritize work.
    • Support operational changes to meet service needs, goals and objectives.
    • Assess and communicate staff development needs to management.
    • Order supplies and equipment using PeopleSoft requisitions.
    • Provides direct patient care in the medical assistant role.
    • Clinical:
      • Demonstrates clinical competence relevant to the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
      • Coordinate and monitor prior authorizations for medications and clinical procedures.
      • Assesses and intervenes in critical situations involving patients, staff, and visitors and consults with manager for guidance as needed.
      • Implements appropriate actions to respond to needs of patients and their significant others.
    • Leadership:
      • Participates in medical assistant hiring, performance review, and mentoring/coaching of new assigned staff within the department.
      • In collaboration with practice manager, ensure quality and productivity standards are met, manage medical assistant staff workflow, identify and lead opportunities for improvement.
      • Resolve complex or critical situations involving medical assistant staff and customers; consult with manager and Operations Coordinator for guidance as needed (e.g., formal complaints, discipline, etc.).
      • Anticipates staffing needs for subsequent clinic days and makes necessary arrangements for coverage within the department.
      • Acts in accordance with organizational culture; understands how own work team affects others in the organization and knows when to escalate an issue, problem, or decision.
      • Contribute to routine monthly staff meetings.
    • Education:
      • Assesses and communicates staff development needs to manager.
      • Serves as a resource for staff.
      • Provide job orientation and staff development training for medical assistants.
      • Coordinate and participate in department’s educational, in-service, and safety training programs.
      • Develop, coordinate, present and participate in medical assistant education programs and competencies.

    ** Required :**

    • Candidate must have written proof of meeting candidate eligibility requirements for writing one of the five eligible certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA)
    • Accepted documentation : * New MA Graduates within 6 months from date of graduation from an MA Program must submit: a letter from the school or a letter from the certifying body * Non-Certified MAs or new graduates past 6 months from date of graduation from an MA program must submit: a letter from the certifying body
    • Within first six months of employment, will complete one of the following certifications after up to two test attempts:
      • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
      • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT) or
      • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
      • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
      • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) through the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)

    All Candidates/Incumbents:

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • American Heart Association accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
    • Signed acknowledgement during onboarding that certification must be attained within 6months, as a condition of employment
    • Strong computer skills.
