Job Description
This position is responsible for supervising and directing CDL drivers, equipment, and processes related to all fleet operations within the assigned territory. It will also manage all third-party logistics (3PL) transportation partners. The position requires experience in fleet operations supporting a food-grade warehouse. This position reports directly to the VP of Supply Chain. The ability to influence and negotiate internally and externally and to provide guidance to suppliers is critical.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Oversee and manage dispatchers and drivers, ensuring effective fleet operations
o Utilize various communication channels to ensure fleet operations meet all requirements
o Recruit, interview, train, and mentor new dispatchers and transport drivers
• Ensure all vehicles are in proper working condition and compliant with regulations.
• Collaborate with delivery and warehouse personnel to facilitate smooth operations
• Lead the development, implementation, standardization, and management of DOT Trucking Compliance Programs (including CMV Files, DOT Driver Qualification Files, DOT Drug/Alcohol Programs, Vehicle Inspections, and Hours of Service)
• Ensure compliance with administrative policies, safety regulations, and government laws among staff
o Develop criteria, application instructions, procedural manuals, and contracts in accordance with federal and state laws
• Monitor inbound and outbound transportation activities, coordinating with peer Transportation Managers cross-functionally
o Track fleet performance through monthly reporting and maintenance of DOT-related files
• Stay informed on changes to Federal and State DOT trucking regulations, providing impact summaries to the Directors
• Conduct quarterly safety meetings and training
o Recommend improvements to enhance safety and promote safe performance habits
o Perform safety audits and engage with individual staff members as needed
o Collaborate with government agencies during investigations of transportation accidents to identify causes and improve safety procedures
• Analyze route books to identify trends and optimize operations
o Monitor performance metrics and suggest modifications to enhance overall productivity
o Supervise all activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles
• Maintain consistent communication regarding service issues with relevant personnel and departments
• Collaborate with vendors and store locations to ensure timely product delivery and pickup
• Negotiate contracts with material suppliers and external transportation carriers, ensuring contract fulfillment
o Coordinate with brokers for backhaul opportunities and establish fleet revenue lanes
Qualifications
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in food-grade warehouse or private fleet operations, with a track record of increasing responsibility; some college education preferred
• Strong working knowledge of federal DOT rules and regulations, with the ability to ensure compliance
• Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel; experience with WMS routing software is preferred
• Familiarity with conducting business with freight brokers through various communication channels
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to be flexible and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical skills to assess performance and make data-driven decisions
