    Job Description

    Job Summary:

    AECOM is seeking an entry-level Transportation Planner to join their team that will support ongoing projects throughout the US West Region of North America. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work independently and as part of a larger project team. Expected assignments will include but not be limited to corridor studies, sub-regional planning efforts, alternatives analysis, urban planning, landscape architecture, and NEPA tasks for clients such as transit agencies and departments of transportation across the United States. Potential tasks include:

    • Support the development of transportation plans/studies with spatial analysis and generation of informative maps for reports and presentations using GIS software.
    • Support the development of transit plans/studies with statistical analysis on a variety of topics such as Census information, land use, roadway and transit networks, accident records, travel behavior, transportation demand, and asset inventories.
    • Assist with updates and maintenance of comprehensive plans, transportation plans, neighborhood plans, active transportation and/or land development regulations.
    • Under supervision of senior staff, supports review or creation of various potential development-related materials such as plats, permits, site plans, etc.
    • Present and create reports on data interpretations and findings using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and other tools.
    • Work with the planning team to conduct public outreach through presentations, public meeting materials, and online tools such as interactive Story Maps.
    • Study current and emerging technologies and trends in transit and multimodal transportation.
    • Research current transportation-related topics at local, state, and federal levels.
    • Conduct concept-level evaluations of transit/transportation improvement projects.
    • Prepare drafts of technical memos, reports, meeting minutes, and presentations.
    • Assist with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or project managers.
    • This position will involve planning and project development activities for transportation projects under the supervision of more senior staff.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BA/BS in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or related fields + demonstrated applied experience.

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

    • Strong technical writing skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems, including ArcMap and ArcGIS Online, Google Earth, and/or other geographic software
    • Cursory familiarity with CAD and industry standard software (e.g., AutoCAD or MicroStation) and its use to generate planning-related content
    • Self-motivated individual with strong organizational skills
    • Coursework and/or project experience in transportation planning, GIS, and/or data analysis
    • Experience in preparing graphics and visuals using Adobe Creative Suite
    • Basic knowledge of transportation planning topics
    • Related experience through internships
    • Demonstrate excellent written, verbal, and graphical skills
