Job Title: Transportation Safety Specialist Department: Safety Reports to: Director of Safety
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Conducts and documents safety check rides (15 per month) and safety spot checks (20 per month) on Bus Operators and Mobility Drivers
· Performs monthly facility inspections on all assigned SporTran facilities and bus shelters (Non-Maintenance Facilities).
· Monthly, inspect and document all bus routes for safety concerns that could affect the safe and timely operation of bus schedules (14 per month).
· Be the focal point for maintenance safety issues over the weekends while also supporting transportation safety.
· Prepare newly assigned SporTran vehicles (camera install, forms binders, decals…) Ensure they are ready for service on time.
· Monitor the TrackIt program daily. Address accidents/incidents/customer complaints as assigned with urgency per SporTran policy.
· Monitor Whip Around pre/post trip emails daily. Be proactive to address any safety items that are submitted as non-compliant.
· Monthly inspect and document assigned vehicle video cameras for proper operation and repair cameras as needed in a timely manner.
· Investigate all vehicle accidents and incidents on route. Pull video and prepare all documentation and recommend corrective actions for Director of Safety.
· Inventory bus camera assets (A70) for accuracy and accountability monthly.
· Monitor bus housekeeping program daily to ensure that hazardous conditions are minimized, buses are clean as well as administration office areas. Document non-compliance in Trackit.
· Assist Maintenance Safety Specialist with monthly facility camera inspections for proper operation as needed.
· Assist Maintenance Safety Specialist when needed investigating accidents and incidents in the maintenance facility. Review video and recommend corrective actions.
· Investigate public safety concerns as it pertains to SporTran Operations as needed.
· Train SporTran new hire employees on safety topics they will encounter.
· Quarterly train Operators, Maintenance, Mobility and Admin employees on relevant needed training. Develop impactful training material (video’s, power points…) that address safety concerns. This involves classroom instruction time and presentation skills.
· Interprets company policies and union contract to workers and enforces safety regulations.
· Member of the Accident Review Board.
· Performs other duties assigned or required by management.
SKILLS AND ABILITY
· Ability to interpret company policies and union contract to shop employees.
· Ability to set the example while enforcing vehicle safety practices and regulations.
· Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with employees, department heads and other company officials in a courteous and professional manner.
· Ability to develop training material via computer web-based software.
· Ability to present material in a classroom training environment.
· Mechanical skill to do minor repair work on bus camera systems.
· Ability to lift 35 pounds.
· Ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· High School Diploma or its equivalent
· Computer proficient in Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and associated Maintenance Data Collection programs, internet and some training development software.
· Must have valid drivers’ license.
· Candidate shift schedule will be Friday thru Monday 10-hour shifts (non-negotiable)
· Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold weather.
PREFFERD QUALIFICATIONS
· Safety certifications (CPR/First Aid, 40 hr. HAZWOP, CDL)
· OSHA 10 course
· Other relevant certifications encouraged.

MOTOR VEHICLE VIOLATIONS WHICH WILL DISQUALIFY AN APPLICANT INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO MORE THAN TWO MOVING VIOLATIONS; RESPONSIBILITY FOR MORE THAN ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT, AND NO CONVICTION INVOLVING DRUGS OR ALCOHOL, HIT AND RUN, OR RECKLESS DRIVING.
