Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Transportation Utility Engineer to be based in San Jose or Oakland, CA, or Seattle.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepare utility plans, specifications, estimates to support project needs.
Develop water and sanitary sewer relocation plans in alignment with project requirements.
Request and obtain the utility maps and as-builts from various utility owners
Coordinate with subcontractors to positively locate utilities per Caltrans’ utility locating policies.
Proactively identify potential utility conflicts with the project improvements.
Draft and submit utility conflict notification letters to relevant utility owners.
Collaborate with utility owners to develop relocation plans and provide liability claim letters.
Prepare and submit necessary documentation, such as the encroachment policy exception request memo, to Caltrans
Review utility relocation design plans prepared by utility owners.
Determine the timeline for each utility relocation in aligned with the overall project schedule.
Investigate liability for relocation cost based on the prior rights, agreements, permits, local and State statutes, etc.
Maintain status matrix for the utility relocations, tracking both cost and schedule.
Identify Right-of-Way requirements for utility relocations and assist the Right-of-Way agent in acquisition processes.
Assist in the preparation of Notice to Owners and Utility Agreements.
Prepare and submit utility certifications.
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design efforts within staff's specific area of expertise.
Approves and signs off on work as need, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
Participates in development of technical proposals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer license and ability to obtain California PE within twelve months if not currently registered in California
Expertise in developing utility engineering design packages for highway and/or roadway improvement projects in California (must include some Caltrans and local agency project experience)
Knowledge of utility engineering and construction practices and water and wastewater utilities design procedures.
Ability to communicate, interpret and comply with ordinances, policies, etc.
Ability to work in a team environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff
Experience preparing technical specifications in Greenbook and/or Caltrans format
Proficient in the use of and ability to use MicroStation and AutoCAD
Excellent written and oral communications skills
