Travel/Perm Social Worker (MSW) Oncology/Dialysis Unit - North Dakota
American Consultants is looking for a Social Worker to work at a facility close to Williston, ND. Oncology/Dialysis experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient and Family Support:
- Provide emotional counseling to patients and their families to help them cope with the stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- Facilitate family discussions about the treatment plan, prognosis, and end-of-life issues, as necessary.
- Offer crisis intervention for patients and families who are struggling with emotional or psychological distress.
Resource Coordination:
- Help patients and families access community resources, financial assistance, support groups, and cancer-related services.
- Assist in finding local and national resources for patients, such as transportation, housing, and nutritional support.
- Help with insurance navigation and connect patients to financial assistance programs or charity care.
Care Planning and Advocacy:
- Collaborate with oncology teams, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans, especially for patients with complex psychosocial needs.
- Advocate for the patient's emotional, social, and practical needs within the healthcare team.
- Ensure patients' rights are respected and that they are informed about their treatment options, including any legal rights regarding their healthcare.
Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families on coping mechanisms, the cancer treatment process, and available support services.
- Provide information on emotional well-being, stress management, and navigating the healthcare system during cancer care.
- Offer guidance on palliative care and end-of-life planning if appropriate.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Social Work Degree: A Master's in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work.
- Licensure: Active state licensure as a clinical social worker (LCSW or equivalent), or eligibility for licensure in the state of practice.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in an oncology or healthcare setting, with expertise in psychosocial assessment, counseling, and care coordination.
- Oncology Experience: Knowledge of cancer treatment processes, patient care plans, and challenges related to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
