  • Responsibilities

    This is position with an expected start date of work to be Aug/Sept 2024. Alaska residents will be given preference.

    The Core Logging Geologist under the direction of the Supervisory Senior Field Geologist and working with the Exploration/Production Core Logging Geologists, assists in the daily core logging, sampling, and data entry of drill data. This work must be performed in a manner where attention to detail is important.

    Nature and Scope of Position
    This entry-level position is responsible for the logging, preserving and recording of geologic information on assigned drill holes. This includes photographing core, accurate logging of geology and structural features, data entry/data management, preparing maps/cross-sections, analysis/interpretation, and report writing. In addition, minor fieldwork is expected to include field sampling and drill rig checking.

    Specific Accountabilities
    1\. Maintain a safe and effective work environment.
    2\. Accurately and precisely record geologic information and enter into database in a timely fashion
    3\. Facilitate cooperation and team cohesion between the Core Logging team and Production Geology team.
    4\. Accurately record and report any fieldwork in a timely manner.

    EQUIPMENT USED
    iPad data logger, Core orientation tool, Brunton Compass, computer work station, pick-up truck.

    UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
    Must be able to work outdoors in dusty, dry, or wet and muddy conditions. Required to work in Alaskan environment with wildlife in area (bears, wolves, moose). Transportation by helicopter may be required as needed with this position to do project field work and check on the status of drill rigs. Logging area of Core Processing Facility maybe noisy at times. An extended 15 day on and 13 day off rotational work schedule is required, working 11-12 hour shifts. Pogo is a remote site with a permanent camp. The Core Processing Facility and adjacent housing unit is in a distal section of the Pogo mine lease and cooperation between personnel is critical to the work/social environment.

    Meet with drillers in the alignment and termination of drillholes at field locations. Display a clear commitment to safety, health and responsible environmental management.     QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in geology with economic geology degree preferred.

    CERTIFICATES & LICENCES: Valid Driver's license is required. MSHA certificate preferred.

    EXPERIENCE: This is a entry level position but previous temporary experience in core logging, sampling, data entry of drilling data and/or exploration field work would be a plus. Must be proficient in map reading and data processing.

    SKILLS: Strong mineral/rock identification skills required. Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must have ability to learn new software programs (Vulcan, Leapfrog, AcQuire, etc.)

    ABILITIES: Must be able to lift 50 pounds, from floor to chest level without injury. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, ability to work tight corridors, as well as, working closely around moving equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to work in a team with a high regard for quality and environmental concerns and with a strong commitment to safety and safe production.

    KNOWLEDGE: Strong knowledge and understanding of Interior Alaska Geology a plus.

    AUTHORIZATION: Strong knowledge and understanding of Interior Alaska Geology a plus.

    ONSITE
    Applicants are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, outdoor recreation and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
