    We are seeking Orton-Gillingham (OG) Tutors to work with our students one-on-one. Looking for qualified candidates as stated below, or be willing complete our 50 hour Basic OG training course.

    For new OG tutors

    All of DII’s tutors are trained in the use of Orton-Gillingham including a practicum. This is a requirement for being qualified to tutor for DII.

    INDIVIDUALS NEEDING TO COMPLETE THE 50 HOUR TRAINING:

    DII will provide the 50 hour Basic OG training at no charge to an individual wanting to tutor for the organization. This is possible thanks to the financial support of generous donors. DII’s training cost per individual is $2,000 plus additional mentoring and support, and includes the 40 hour instructional class PLUS the 10 hour practicum. You must commit a specific number of hours to the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana for training to be at no cost.

    If the obligation has not been met and the individual leaves DII, they will be required to pay back the $2000 training. Please contact us with more specific information on the number of hours.

    The training is a combination of self-guided learning and mandatory digital classroom meetings (all virtual).

    Applicants will choose one of these two class times.

    1. Wednesdays, April 2 - May 21, from 6 pm - 9 pm

    or

    2. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 3 - June 26, from 4 pm - 7 pm.

    INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE COMPLETED DII’S 40 HOUR TRAINING BUT HAVE NOT COMPETED THE 10 HOUR PRACTICUM:

    If the individual has taken DII’s 40 hour training, but still needs to compete the 10 hour practicum, DII may be able to provide this part of the training in exchange for the individual agreeing to tutor for us. This will help cover the $950 cost for the practicum. The practicum may be done with the individual’s first student. No pay will be received until successful completion of the practicum.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage and educate students in a non-classroom setting
    • Design and implement lesson plans at varying academic levels
    • Establish academic goals and milestones with students
    • Document and communicate progress reports
    • Provide constructive feedback for students

    Qualifications:

    • Possess an associate's degree
    • Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, or other related fields is preferred
    • Ability to build rapport with students
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
