Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Underground Section Foreman to lead a team of 14 to 16 crew members in an underground coal mining operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that daily production goals are met while strictly adhering to all safety, compliance, and operational standards. As the primary point of contact for a designated mining section, the foreman will oversee work operations, ensuring that all activities are carried out efficiently and in accordance with both company policies and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all safety protocols, job safety standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed. Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks with crew members, and immediately address any safety concerns or violations.
• Production Management: Oversee daily production activities to meet budgeted goals. Monitor work progress, resolve issues affecting production, and ensure all tasks are completed on schedule.
• Crew Supervision: Directly supervise a team of 14 to 16 employees, providing leadership, guidance, and support to maintain productivity and safety. Address performance issues, provide coaching, and conduct performance reviews as needed.
• Training & Development: Ensure all crew members are adequately trained in safety procedures, equipment operation, and mining techniques. Foster a continuous learning environment to ensure crew members' skills are up-to-date and aligned with industry best practices.
• Communication: Act as a liaison between the mining team, company leadership, and regulatory agencies (state and federal). Ensure clear communication regarding operational performance, safety incidents, and compliance issues.
• Equipment & Maintenance: Ensure that all mining equipment is being operated efficiently and safely. Work closely with maintenance teams to ensure any equipment malfunctions or issues are quickly addressed to minimize downtime.
• Regulatory Compliance: Assist with inspections and audits by state and federal regulatory agencies. Ensure compliance with all relevant mining laws, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
• Problem-Solving: Address any operational issues that arise, including safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or labor concerns. Implement corrective actions quickly to minimize disruptions to operations.
Qualifications:
• Mine Foreman's Certification: Valid Kentucky Mine Foreman's Certification is required.
• Experience: A minimum of two years' experience in a production foreman's role in an underground coal mine is required.
• Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of MSHA regulations and industry best practices for mining safety and operations.
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team while maintaining a focus on safety, productivity, and compliance.
• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees, management, and regulatory agencies.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work in challenging underground conditions with low height and moving equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with mining equipment and troubleshooting.
• Previous experience working with regulatory agencies during inspections or audits.
• First Aid/CPR Certification.
Work Conditions:
This is a full-time, onsite position in an underground coal mining environment. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and extended hours depending on operational needs.
