Underwriting Supervisor (Personal Lines)
Location: Remote for Southeastern States
Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000
Position Summary: The Underwriting Supervisor plays a critical leadership role within the underwriting department. This individual is responsible for overseeing multiple key functions, including quality review audits, production standards monitoring, and team development. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of the underwriting process and excel in managing a team of underwriters while ensuring the profitability and growth of personal lines business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise underwriting functions to ensure timely processing, proper risk selection, and renewal business monitoring.
- Build and maintain relationships with agencies to support business growth.
- Review and approve risks beyond the staff’s authority and manage complex underwriting inquiries.
- Collaborate with the field marketing team to address service and other issues between the company and agencies.
- Oversee the handling of customer inquiries and complaints.
- Ensure adherence to underwriting policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Set operational goals and direct the team to achieve desired results.
- Provide training, coaching, and leadership to underwriters, ensuring their development and performance.
- Conduct performance appraisals and review meetings, and make recommendations for employment actions such as promotions or corrective actions.
- Participate in or lead projects, coordinating resources to achieve project goals.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in personal lines Property and Casualty underwriting.
- Prior management or leadership experience within an underwriting function is required.
- Strong adaptability, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant underwriting tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of industry-related coursework (AINS, CPCU, or equivalent certifications).
