Position Summary
The Unemployment Claims Specialist is a human resource professional that manages and processes unemployment benefit claims on behalf of our clients, and our companies, in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Claims Management: reviewing, analyzing, and processing unemployment benefit claims. Verifying and interpreting information collected through various tech platforms to determine and advise clients on the best course of action.
- Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with employer, and various regulatory and state agencies. Support client training on response platforms as needed.
- Use Powers of Attorney to act on behalf of clients, promptly and aligned with the state regulations.
- Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of independent judgement.
- As needed, assist, or perform work typically supported at the Associate level or assist others performing work of greater complexity; hearing preparation or hearing attendance, in support of department needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A strong drive to deliver exceptional client support to both external and internal customers.
- Strong organizational skills, diligence, and follow-through.
- Knowledge of unemployment benefit claims terminology, methods, and procedures.
- Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office applications.
- Negotiation and persuasion skills in adversarial situations.
- Ability to manage a high volume of work, follow policies and procedures and complete tasks while adhering to strict deadlines.
- Ability to evaluate unemployment insurance claims operations, to interpret policies and procedures, to prepare reports, and to communicate effectively in English, in writing and orally.
- Treat sensitive and confidential information responsibly.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 2 years of unemployment claims experience, or
- 2 – years basic experience in a PEO or payroll-heavy environment.
- Previous experience implementing new processes highly desired.
