Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Aircraft Upholstery Technician to join our maintenance team. The primary responsibility of this role is to repair, replace, and maintain the interior upholstery and coverings of aircraft, including panels, seats, and other interior surfaces. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, experience in upholstery and aircraft interior work, and a commitment to ensuring high-quality standards for passenger safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
- Repair, maintain, and replace aircraft upholstery, including seat coverings, headrests, armrests, and panels, ensuring compliance with FAA and manufacturer standards.
- Work with a variety of materials such as leather, fabric, vinyl, and other aircraft-approved materials to perform upholstery tasks.
- Perform thorough inspections of aircraft interiors, identifying areas of wear and tear on panels, upholstery, and coverings, and recommending solutions.
- Remove and install aircraft interior panels, coverings, and seats in accordance with maintenance manuals and guidelines.
- Ensure all upholstery work meets or exceeds company and regulatory standards for safety, aesthetics, and durability.
- Follow strict safety protocols and comply with all FAA regulations, company procedures, and maintenance manuals.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored and in good working condition.
- Work with maintenance teams to schedule and prioritize interior repairs or upgrades to minimize aircraft downtime.
- Document completed work and materials used, ensuring that all required maintenance records are updated and accurately maintained.
- Assist with the fabrication of custom parts and upholstery when required for special projects or refurbishments.
- Coordinate with aircraft manufacturers and interior design teams to ensure consistency and high-quality craftsmanship across different aircraft models.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as an upholstery technician, preferably in the aviation industry or related field.
- Strong knowledge of materials used in aircraft interior work, including leather, vinyl, fabrics, and foam.
- Familiarity with aircraft interior systems, including panels, seating, and other coverings.
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, technical drawings, and blueprints.
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and sewing machines required for upholstery tasks.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with other maintenance personnel.
- Knowledge of FAA regulations and industry standards for aircraft interiors.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications or technical training in upholstery, automotive, or aviation maintenance preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience 6 years minimum working with aircraft upholstery, including CRJ, Boeing, Airbus, or other regional and commercial aircraft.
- Certification in upholstery or aircraft maintenance (A&P license is a plus).
- Previous experience with custom interior design and refurbishment projects for aircraft.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, as required when working on aircraft interiors.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and lift for extended periods of time while performing upholstery tasks.
