Position Overview:
King School is looking for a full-time Upper School Physics Instructor to teach our general and advanced (AP Physics 1 and 2) physics courses.This candidate should be proficient in the language and practices of the Next Generation Science Standards, apply inquiry-based learning pedagogy, and create an inclusive learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
START DATE: August 19, 2025
- Creates a classroom experience that presents a warm, well-structured, and organized learning environment that encourages and supports intellectual risk-taking and growth, with consistent routines and expectations for the students and for one’s self.
- Creates curricula that improve scientific skills, techniques and practices through multiple modalities of teaching and learning.
- Establishes an inclusive learning environment where each student knows they are seen, heard, valued, and respected.
- Develops NGSS-inspired lesson plans.
- Adds value to the department by collaborating with others and contributing to the progression of our inquiry-based, research-focused, student-centered curriculum.
- Designs and executes curricula that address problem-solving for real-world issues that develops students’ sense of stewardship, agency and personal investment.
- Mentor and guide students with their own open-inquiry science fair project.
- Collaborate with the inter- and cross-divisional members of the Science Department to teach our inquiry-based, student-centered curriculum following backward design.
- Contribute to a department-wide collaborative plan for materials management.
- Maintain All support and communication of an active teacher.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics or any related field; Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1-3 years high school teaching experience preferred.
- A sound understanding of the intellectual and social-emotional developmental stages of adolescence.
- Experience developing and implementing units of study aimed at skill development and content delivery in the science classroom.
- Ability and willingness to facilitate student-centered best practices.
- An understanding of and expertise in facilitating hands-on, experiential labs, research, science-based writing instruction, and fostering student inquiry.
- Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery, autonomy of thought and skill development.
- Ability to be organized and manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including Google Classroom.
- Demonstrated capacity in culturally responsive professional practices, excellent communication skills, and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
- Demonstrated capacity to thrive in our diverse community, including but not limited to diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity, socio-economic status, ability/disability, belief, sexual orientation, and national origin according to our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion principles.
- Demonstrated alignment with King’s Mission and Virtues.
