We provide a wide range of geophysical testing and surveying services to the engineering, construction, geological and environmental communities. Utility Designation and Mapping is one of our core services.

This position is focused on utility locating, but we’re also looking for someone who is ready to grow, continue learning, and eventually expand their skillset into other areas of our field services.
What You’ll Be Doing As a Utility Locating Specialist, you’ll be on the front lines of identifying and marking underground utilities before excavation and construction projects begin. You may be also responsible for documenting the study results using high-precision GPS. Your work is critical to protecting infrastructure, keeping crews safe, and ensuring project success.
Your daily responsibilities will include:
Locating underground utilities using electromagnetic (EM) locators and ground penetrating radar (GPR)
Interpreting utility records, 811 tickets, and construction plans
Accurately marking utilities in the field with paint and flags
Using GPS to document results
Documenting and reporting findings clearly and thoroughly
Performing site assessments to identify risks or conflicts
Communicating with clients, contractors, and project managers
Maintaining all tools, equipment, and company vehicle
Following all safety procedures and site protocols
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED (trade or tech school a plus)
Minimum 2 years of experience in utility locating (811, private locating, or related work)
Familiarity with underground utility systems and construction methods
Ability to read and interpret utility maps, as-builts, and site drawings
Strong communication and customer service skills
Physically able to work outdoors in all conditions and lift up to 50 lbs
Willing to travel daily to job sites; occasional overnight work may be required
Valid driver’s license with clean record
Able to pass background checks for secure facility access
Willing to obtain industry certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/40, Substation Entry, etc.)
CDL is a plus
Spanish/English bilingual is a plus
