    Independence Excavating is looking to hire a Heavy Shop Utility Support candidate. This position will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization in the heavy shop, performing automobile porter duties including vehicle detailing, deliveries and parts pick up with additional tasks as assigned.

    A typical day looks like:

    Janitorial:

    • Perform general cleaning tasks such as dusting, mopping, sweeping, damp wiping surfaces, and vacuuming.
    • Performs facilities maintenance or notifies management concerning need for more major repairs to plumbing, lighting, heating and ventilating equipment.
    • Clean and sanitize common areas including break rooms and restrooms.
    • Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste.
    • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
    • Follow safety protocols and guidelines for Heavy Shop activities and while handling cleaning chemicals.
    • Perform seasonal maintenance as necessary to include landscaping or snow removal as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Fleet Support:

    • Washes and waxes vehicle exterior, cleans interiors and exterior.
    • Vacuums interior of vehicles to remove loose dirt and debris.
    • Retrieve and deliver company vehicles, parts, and materials.

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/ GED is required.
    • Powered Industrial Truck experience preferred.
    • Valid Driver License and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report
    • Experience as a warehouse associate or vehicle porter preferred.
    • Excellent oral communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    Working Conditions:

    Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions which can include extreme temperatures. As necessary, overtime is required. Work environment will expose employees to high levels of noise. Employee regularly works around heavy equipment and/or moving machinery. At times employee may be exposed to uneven ground surfaces, vibration from machinery, dust, chemicals, and heights.

    Physical Requirements:

    Physical demand is heavy, occasionally requiring ability to lift, push, pull between 50-100lbs. During normal responsibilities, Utility Support would constantly be walking and moving about and reaching to clean different areas and surfaces, and complete work tasks. Utility Support would also occasionally be required to stand, sit, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, crouch, climb and balance. Physical dexterity to use hand tools and operate vehicles is required. Occasionally, Utility Support would be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch. To perform job satisfactorily, operator would need to talk, speak, hear, and visually have satisfactory near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, color vision and field vision.
