The VDI Solutions Manager will work closely with cross-functional IT teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to deliver scalable, secure, and highly available virtual desktop environments. This includes supporting applications commonly used in AEC environments, such as Autodesk and ESRI products.

_ This position offers flexibility for hybrid work schedules, including both in-office presence and telecommute/virtual work, based in either Dallas or Houston, TX._

    Key Responsibilities:

    Citrix Cloud & VDI Architecture:

    • Lead the design, deployment, and management of Citrix Cloud-based VDI solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
    • Architect and implement VDI solutions that support complex business applications, including GPU-intensive AEC software such as Autodesk and ESRI products.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess business needs and translate them into a VDI architecture and services roadmap.

    Windows Server & Active Directory:

    • Manage and optimize Windows Server environments that support VDI services, ensuring seamless integration with Citrix Cloud.
    • Administer Active Directory (AD) environments, including Group Policy Objects (GPOs), to enforce security, manage configurations, and control desktop environments.
    • Ensure robust integration of AD with VDI solutions for secure user access and authentication.

    Azure Cloud Management:

    • Design secure and scalable VDI solutions within Azure, utilizing resource groups and managing charge-back processes.
    • Ensure VDI services are optimized for cost efficiency within Azure by implementing charge-back strategies and monitoring resource utilization.
    • Secure Azure environments by designing resource groups with appropriate access controls, ensuring compliance with security standards.

    Performance and Optimization:

    • Continuously monitor the VDI environment, identifying opportunities to improve performance, enhance user experience, and reduce costs.
    • Develop and maintain capacity planning models to ensure adequate resources are available to meet future demand.
    • Work closely with the storage, network, and security teams to ensure optimal performance and security of the VDI infrastructure, particularly for high-performance applications requiring GPU acceleration.

    Security & Compliance:

    • Ensure that VDI environments comply with internal security policies, industry standards (such as NIST), and regulatory frameworks.
    • Implement and maintain security controls, including multi-factor authentication and monitoring, for the Citrix Cloud VDI environment.
    • Work with cybersecurity teams to assess risks, enforce best practices, and address vulnerabilities within the VDI environment.

    VDI Support and Operations:

    • Lead the day-to-day operations of the VDI environment, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
    • Coordinate with vendors, partners, and internal support teams to ensure timely updates, patches, and upgrades.
    • Provide tier-3 support for critical incidents and oversee root cause analysis and resolution efforts.

    Solution Architecture & Strategy:

    • Lead VDI architecture discussions and decisions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s broader IT and cloud strategies.
    • Identify and recommend new technologies, tools, and approaches to enhance the VDI service and improve user experience.
    • Engage with application owners and infrastructure teams to ensure that VDI services support business-critical applications, particularly GPU-intensive AEC software.

    Reporting and Documentation:

    • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for all VDI environments, including architecture, configurations, policies, and operational procedures.
    • Provide regular status reports to senior management on the VDI environment’s performance, capacity, and security posture.

    Continuous Improvement:

    • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies in the VDI space, providing recommendations for potential enhancements or strategic changes.
    • Stay informed about the latest developments in Citrix Cloud, Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure, and virtualization technologies.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Strong knowledge of Citrix Cloud technologies and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (formerly XenDesktop).
    • In-depth understanding of Windows Server and Active Directory GPO management for VDI environments.
    • Experience architecting and implementing VDI solutions for complex applications, including GPU-accelerated workloads and AEC software like Autodesk and ESRI.
    • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and optimization skills within VDI and Windows environments.
    • Ability to collaborate across IT teams, including network, security, storage, and application teams, to ensure the VDI environment operates smoothly.
